AEW Grand Slam: Australia notes

With 665 tickets still available, Dave Meltzer reports that AEW’s upcoming Grand Slam event in Australia has surpassed Forbidden Door 2023 in Toronto, which generated a $1.2 million gate, making it the third-largest gate in AEW history. Tony Khan also alluded to this during an interview on the Down Under The Ring podcast. My final count for Forbidden Door was 13,631, while Mike Johnson reported 13,826, and the company’s announced attendance was 14,826.

An official estimate for Grand Slam has been difficult due to much of the seating map being untrackable, with several sections greyed out (no tickets remaining). Additional tickets were released in recent days. The Brisbane Entertainment Centre has a listed capacity of 13,500, though that figure represents its largest possible concert configuration—most wrestling events do not use that setup. The venue has 11,000 tiered seats, and based on the current setup, it appears AEW will have a stage in place for tomorrow’s show.

AEW’s typical floor seating configurations range from 700 to 1,200, depending on the arena and stage positioning, though this number has been lower recently due to the use of smaller venues. If most tiered seats are filled—excluding those behind the stage—and factoring in a slightly larger floor setup (based on the seating map), a distributed figure in the range of 11,000–12,000 seems reasonable, assuming all greyed-out sections are occupied. While this is lower than Forbidden Door 2023, the higher ticket prices for Grand Slam in Australia have contributed to surpassing that event’s $1.2 million gate, despite the difference in attendance.

More updates to come as additional details and arena photos become available.

Great. I love too see Big Crowds in AEW :)

I'd love to see gate numbers when adjusted for USD, but I assume that'd be a better question for Thurston

I know AEW gets a lot of shit but I think credit where it’s due for being able to course correct on this. The show will look as good as any ppv in recent times and the ausies are always a wild bunch. Looking forward to the show and hope they finally push Buddy who has been very much overlooked. Appreciate your work!

Wasn’t this supposed to be a stadium show?

The accusations going around is that people who originally booked for Suncorp Stadium weren't refunded, but I can believe the higher ticket prices leading to the big gate.

Thanks for this Tix. Its the best you could do based on the available information. We'll know for sure once the pictures starting flowing through.
