My theory is: We know, that Babymonster since May filmed content for "something" (they where seen in public with cameras and crew). My guess would be, that YG planned to release a vlog / reality tv style series with multiple episodes similar to something like IVE's "1,2,3 IVE" or Le Sserafim's "The World Is My Oyster" before (or around) the release to build the hype back up and accompany the release. But Ahyeon 's health messed up a lot of those plans. They couldn't release the filmed episodes, because Ahyeon is part of that footage and it might be to difficult to edit her out. So instead for the short-term they expanded the behind the scenes for the M/V shoot into multiple episodes to have at least something for the release and air the vlog / reality tv show later when Ahyeon (hopefully) rejoined the group. In general after the brillant (i would say perfect) pre-debut marketing, YG seems to struggle right now with Babymonster. Maybe its because of the Blackpink negotiations, maybe its because of YGs legal problems / prison time, maybe investors got nervous, maybe YG has lost his touch as a producer in todays market, maybe they weren't ready for the debut or it's "just" Ahyeon's "health problems". But this "debut" in general feels rushed and not very well planned. The timing of the release (Monday 0 KST) is already very strange, but they also still have no promotions (for example on music shows) booked and their social media strategy for the release (dance challenges with other idols on tiktok etc.) is non existent or at best very barebones. You can try the "we're better than everybody else exclusivity and starve our fans for content" strategy with Blackpink, because they're at the very top, but even Blackpink had their debut with two very different songs (not just one very "YG formulaic" song) and with performances on different music show as well as variety activities around their debut and for the beginning of their career. So far there is nothing with Babymonster. Of course extending the making of for the M/V is better than nothing at all, but I'm a bit concerned about their future. They broke records with the debut because of the genius pre debut marketing, but I see a lot of negativity because of how safe and stereotypical YG did the song (A b-side would've really helped!). Now a lot will depend on their first comeback, its quality and how fast it's here. Of course if Aheyon rejoins in 1-2 months time, things might look different (they than at least can release that filmed reality tv series).
