New NJB: 10-Minute Grocery Delivery
Added 2022-10-29 13:00:12 +0000 UTCHello everyone! My latest video is finally complete, and it's about those new delivery services that promise (or used to promise) to deliver groceries in 10 minutes.
These are really interesting for so many reasons: they're only possible because of mixed-use zoning and delivery by bicycle or moped. But they're also a Pandora's box of issues that cities like Amsterdam are only just starting to deal with. Plus the typical problems that come with VC-funded "start ups".

I'm scared by how much of the deliveroo / just eat type drivers don't realise they aren't insured when they do these type of jobs. I know in most, if not all, the world don't need road insurance but maybe this is a good reason to require something to come in. I know the business use for car insurance not being a standard in the UK. Wasn't sure about other countries, but guess its probably something similar.

2022-10-31 20:53:59 +0000 UTCAlas it seems all these companies are "chasing the Amazon", ie, get so big in people's mindshare that you become their defacto go to, and then use that market size to squeeze the heck out of everyone from the suppliers to the delivery to the consumers. Which is as icky as Domino's pizza. (Which, to be fair, is less icky than their HQ building in it's over scaled, fake, Frank Lloyd Wright knockoff monstrousness... :P)
