I watched the Zero Hour documentary about the Estonia recently. Man, that made the Zeebrugge Ferry sinking look like an incident on a boating lake. What a mess!

Stava Dam. Good topic to cover, as it’s something I know about from National Geographic. They covered that in an episode of Seconds from Disaster. I think the episode is on YouTube, too. Not great quality, but it covers it.

In 2017 I was in the maritime museum in Tallin. They had a special exhibition about search and rescue topics. They showed how it is done today and the rescue equipment nowadays present on ships. One area was dedicated to the Estonia accident and an original rescue boat that was found on shore (without any survivors) was on display. Was very interesting and shocking how outdated the equipment on the Estonia was and how rescue was (not) organised in the baltic sea. Just one example is that for all large ships in the baltic sea heliports are now mandatory (During the Estonia rescue mission helicopters had to fly back to LAND to unload rescued persons).

There's a nonprofit organization that exists only to deal with Hanford's continuing health and safety violations. I read that at one point they accidentally let irradiated tumbleweeds out into the surrounding area
