"An attempt was made to apologize"

Hello Lords and Ladies!

A BIG SORRY to everyone that was impacted by my sudden disappearance! I hate to admit, but... I was exhausted.

The workload in the last six months from my regular job (I am in IT at a University, and dealing with the consequences due to COVID-19 to enable both employees and students to continue their jobs or their studies mainly from home was made possible by the IT departments. It was quite a challenging time), the responsibilities I feel for every Patron (and non-Patron as well) with a growing community demanding attention (and righteously so), then the Little One coming into our lives and bringing some whole new levels of demand into it (and so many lovely moments, 10/10, would recommend).

I like to picture myself as someone who can handle ... everything! And it's not the greatest feeling in the world to admit to yourself and to others that this is not true 100% of the time. In all honesty, I was planning to take a break for just one or two days, to get a deep breath and then continue from there.

One day led to the next and oh boy, it felt good to have a mind getting at ease. There was nothing besides changing diapers and feeding the Little One, it was just so great! It became a week, and quickly a second and yeah, I became more and more wary thinking about how it is for all of you: Not hearing anything, not getting responses to bug reports, no Discord presence, no answers to messages here on Patreon.

That's not my work ethos and it became a bit like needing to talk in a relationship, knowing you did wrong and postponing the aftermath in order to not having to deal with it. That was wrong, that was unprofessional and you deserve better.

Long story short: I am taking full responsibility. If you had any unresolved issues, any unanswered questions or if you are feeling anything else besides pure joy about VTTA: Send me a message with the text "REFUND" and you will get refunded, no questions asked

Furthermore, the following month (November) has the Patreon check disabled on the extension. Even while it's on a short notice, you can remove your pledge and still have access to all tools. This will require you to visit the options on the Chrome extension and to logout/login there to work.

That being said and out of the way, I do hope that we will continue this journey together. Having a mind not constantly racing and being able to step back a little is great to visualizing the bigger picture. It enabled me to identify pain points for me and probably for you in the current state of tools, make some judgement calls and basically starting work on propelling the integration of your licensed content into the right direction. I will close this post with this vague statement and the teaser: The next weeks will bring substantial improvement in all regards and I am looking forward to sharing details with you very soon.

Stay lovely,

Sebastian

Ok that all makes sense now - I assume the Patreon Check is still disabled hence the 500 error on VTTAssets.com , enjoy your time with the wee one - I am a new user and having the integration levels I have with D&D Beyond is more than enough to get me started and still support your efforts. In short enjoy the break and let us know when you are back in the driving seat.

Congrats on the new addition. I know the joy and pain of having little ones. It is a struggle to keep on tract. On that note, any news on when you will be returning to support your product?

sebastian, take time out for you and your family. although i miss the updates you must take care of you and yours first.

Craig Smith

Family comes first! Your DDB importer is fantastic, well worth the $5/month. No refund needed, looking forward to future updates :)

thanks for the transparency, I'll be sticking around. I'm very happy with the DDB actor importer and how much time it saves me.

Best wishes to you and your family! Family comes first! Take care and take your time! Congratulations!

Patrick

Everyone needs some time off occasionally. People should also realize that what you do with VT Assets is not your primary job.

Erik Wirtz

Life gets in the way, and when that life is a new bundle of joy, it's all the more understandable. Personally, I'm glad you had a break and look forward to what's coming down the road!

DamakosVrago

Mine are (almost) 10, 37 and 39. ;)

Bart Heird

Hey man, this is a tough time. Little price for us to pay at the $5 tier if it means your sanity. I appreciate that you sent this out to us. But honestly, I'd echo the same. Take care of yourself! AND a new baby? My god, man. I can't believe you're still standing. :D Looking forward to what your rested (and hopefully restful) mind can produce. TBH, as long as Beyond importing works, I am a very happy camper. :)

Bart Heird

Take care of yourself, bud - stepping back for the fuller picture is to be applauded.

Wokeye27

Firstly, congrats (I have 3 myself. 15, 13, and 8). No refund needed here. I also work IT for the state college system where I live and it's truly a crazy time, I totally understand.

Hey, so I and my campaign are new to Foundry. The MAIN reason we jumped was your work on the modules your provide. I second all the previous posts and am happy to contribute a month of paternity leave, well deserved.

Hey! First of all, congratulations on the new arrival! As others have said, life comes first and I know how priorities change when you have a new life to care for. Take care of you and yours. I'll still be here when you're ready 😊

Dude as IT for a K-12 district myself, I feel ya. No refund for me. Your modules have been a godsend for my campaigns.

hey Seb, take care of yourself and the family. Great of you to make this post for the restless and especially the newcomers that don't know why this or that is not working, combined with the new Foundry release breaking one or two things. You've did a lot for the community and I hope the community has a bit of patience as well. You didn't ran off, life just...found a way :)) Congrats on the baby, and we're waiting for your return. As you know, with great pressure, comes...

Thank you for that heartfelt explanation. Not an IT guy, but learned about run away stress from my 10 years in the army, 6 in the LAPD, and 16 and counting on the LAFD. There is good and bad stress. You my friend need to ensure your have time to decompress and work off the bad stress. If it goes untreated something can crack, break, and explode. So, no refund or worries on my end. Just take care of your family and health first.

Chris Sanz-Agero

I hear you brother. I'm also an IT worker @ a major University (Go Vols!) and things have been kinda cwazy the last few months.

Michael Guenther

Congratulations in your new joys. I think a new kid resets you to level 1 and you're going to need a lot of xp to get to level 2. Good luck. No refund needed. Thank you for all that you have created so far and good luck with the experience grind.

Thats so right, they grow up hellish fast, my granddaughter is 5, it doesn't seem any time from when I held her in my arms for the first time, they and this time are precious.

No refund for me, either. I would, however, accept baby pics. Mine are teenagers now and I'd like to remember how it felt to not want to kill them both.

Brian Dolan

Life First. Will Continue to support and glad to assit in any way

All good. Life happens. I don't need a refund. Congratulations on the new baby! Being a dad is the best job in the world (a very close second is being a spouse).

Clayton Thomson

I am with every one here when I say LIFE COMES FIRST -- especially little ones (Proud Grandfather of two, here!) We all need to rest. What you did for work is essential and your Munchkin is TOP priority, no question about it. These times are rough, you certainly deserve a break. Your work, btw, is awesome and I do not feel you need to apologize for thinking of you after all you've done! (I am Canadian, so I know a thing or two about apologizing LOL) Be well, be healthy, sending you nothing but happy-fun-thoughts!! I totally agree with @greglaabs when he said PATREON support YOU, not the other way around, You are doing US a favour, you know?!

Benoit Meilleur

The point of Patreon should be to support a creator, which is what we're all doing. We're not paying for a service with an SLA here; take whatever breaks and time you need!

Allie Laabs

You did the right thing! You have to get away to clear your head; YouTube, Patreon, Self-Publishing, the audience is voracious and there is not bottom to our stomach as a hoard, lol. If you wait for an opportune moment to take care of yourself it will never happen. I’m glad you were able to take some time to relax to a degree and spent time with your family. I hope you are able to set up a good balance! Thanks for all the hard work :)

JP80

Don't worry about it man, you gotta take care of yourself sometimes, we'll still be here and we appreciate your work! I'm still on board and happy to give you my money. Thank you for your work.

Matt Derrick

Glad you took care of yourself, and glad you're back! Can't wait to see your work moving forward, but don't overdo it!

Valerie

No refund for me, I love what you have been able create for us to use.

Like many others here, I've been in IT since 1996 and work as a Linux architect. If I can ever be of assistance let me know. Don't apologies for having a life and that life can have bumps. People don't understand the level of effort for managing projects. This is a great tool, thank you for your work.

I also work in IT at a university, so I get that the current work climate is non-stop insanity. Everyone needs time to breathe, especially when keeping a family and a project this big afloat. I respect the desire to maintain your professionalism, and appreciate you for it. But, you’re human. We all are. We stumble. We wear down. We find that we can’t all handle everything all the time. You deserve some grace just like everyone else. Continue to do good work, but also take the time to take care of yourself. And thank you for everything you do!

Father of 4 and business/IT professional here as well. Vacation is there for a reason on any job...and you're working two jobs. You're doing a great thing busting ass for yourself and your family. You have to manage and balance your life out to be successful at any of it. If you're all work, you miss family things; if you're all family, you miss work deadlines/things; Try to build a strong support structure around you and balance things out. That Great Little One won't ever take less work or attention. We love the product you've created and us gaming children won't ever want less attention either hahaha. What can we do to help support? I know we support monetarily, but we have passion for this as well and can help contribute in other ways too. Don't be afraid to ask for support, feedback, guidance, content, etc. Thanks again - appreciate the message and communication and know that you have plenty of fans and a huge support structure!

Hey man, I think I speak for everyone in the main Foundry Discord team when I say: we are just SO GLAD you're okay. Paternity leave is a thing for a reason... Everyone I told about it has been super understanding. We just started to get worried for you and fearing... worse things. On a sidenote, giant shoutout to Mr. Primate for helping keep things afloat. What a gem. YOU stay lovely.

Norc

Dude, we all need some downtime, especially with all the COVID related events we all need to deal with. these days. Your lesson learned here is don’t burn yourself out and schedule some “away time” along the way. For this patreon we are talking about a “game”. I’ve been playing it for over 40 years... It’s not going anywhere, take your time. Kudos for spending time with the little kiddo, they grow up faster than you realize..,.

Seriously, as yet another technology professional and father, take it easy. We all love our games and your product, but your first commitment is to your family and your health. We'll be here and we'll keep supporting your efforts.

Krathognis

Do not push yourself past a comfortable pace, the last thing you want is to find yourself in a situation where you feel like your passion has become a prison. You and your family always come first. Best wishes to you and yours Sebastian!

First... congrats on the little one! Second, as someone else in IT who's been an "essential" during this whole pandemic thing... dude... don't let it cause you any anxiety. We IT guys tend to take a lot of things personally, despite it all being outside of our control. Instead... just relax, take a breath, enjoy your family, and try to work on the things you can, WHEN you can. We'll be here.... sure, we'll be waiting with 'baited breath'... but we'll still be here... and totally understanding. Now if you can fix the 'compatibility issues' with the latest build, that would be great.... but if it takes some time... dude... that's just how it goes. Your family comes first, and your primary job comes second, we are on the tertiary... so... relax... and don't stress! Just do WHAT you can, WHEN you can. Nothing more. Again... keep the little one safe and the significant other happy. :)

Dethangels Shadow

Congrats on the little one - I can totally feel your pain here :) It is both wonderful and taxing! Keep plugging though bud

James Boyden

Youre the man! I'm an I.T in a NYC Hospital so I know how you feel. I too have to report in an assist with remote work as I am an asset manager in the I.T dept. I too am preparing for a family soon. Congratulations on everything youve achieved so far and all the great work youve done. You have a lot of important things to do, we all do!

Djehuty

I'm not going to ask for any refund! Your following your dream and I am going to keep supporting you no matter your personal complications! I live by example and my online behavior is no different, I draw inspiration to follow my dreams when I see others following theirs. Congratulations on your Little One, be prepared for much happiness together with your family 👪!

C Trammell

"The next weeks will bring substantial improvement in all regards..." - NO. Just take it easy and do not disappoint YOURSELF. Do a small amount of work each day and the substantial improvements will come when they come... - Software Developer + father of a two year old :)

I just joined like 2 days so still figuring the program out foundry that is. But besides that everyone needs to take care of health and family number 1. When u are happy, then its better for u and us. I am going through a really tough year, ex left , in a strange country, 2 kids, no family. Its not easy but chin up and take care of u.

Mark Brugman

I respectfully request that you take care of yourself and your family. I agree with all of those who have stated the same sentiment. We need you happy and healthy in order for us to be able to do our end of this GMing. We are a community even if we are strangers.

Krystaline

Thank you for the message, and like everyone else is saying is not needed. Everyone needs time to charge their batteries, it was a holiday of sorts. A holiday away from us. You carry on looking after your little one and enjoy this time with them.

2020 has been hard for all. I appreciate all you do. As things pick back up for you, don't hesitate to take time for yourself and your family to stay healthy.

Thank you for this message, Sebastian! Like many others have said - no need to apologize! Your VTTA tools were the deciding factor in my game switching to Foundry. Thank you for the amazing work you've already done! Stay safe!

Hi, no need to apologise. Sometimes, life happens. And especially with a little one - the world is turned upside down. I know from my own experience. Thanks for the work that you do, it’s highly appreciated!

Just to reiterate the above sentiment. No need to apologize. Everybody is struggling adjust to the new normal. Rather than asking for a refund I would rather donate some money to the cause. My group has never played as much DnD as during pandemic time. Having Foundry and your VTTA tool made the transition easier and even increased the fun (at least for me as the DM). I think it helped us stay positive and to have something next to home office all day. Bug (biological or IT) are part of life! Thank you and take care. I rather wait a while for fixes than you burning out and the tool will cease to exist!

Christian Reinhard

My man, don't worry about it. Life is busy. little ones are precious. You need to focus where it matters most.

Lawren Nemeth

Don't worry about it, taking care of yourself and your family must always be the first priority! As a father to a little one, while it is joyful it is also taxing ;) Don't overwork yourself, don't get stressed out. Take some days off and relax every week is my recommendation! We all love your product and love to see it grow and become better :)

Got to take care of you and yours as a priority. Getting enough rest is the only way to avoid burnout.

You have a kid. Priorities man. Priorities. Never apologize for taking care of your family. Glad to see you're good. Looking forward to new content.

Self care is never anything to apologise for. Welcome back and congratulations

Jason King

Wait you where gone? 😂

Shimuni

I only just became a patron, so I haven’t been affected by your absence, but I just wanted to say that there is no need to apologize. Times are crazy and having a newborn come into the mix is exhausting at any time. Take care of yourself and your loved ones first. But it’s good that you communicate about it, so that’s the lesson to learn from this. And as I said, I’m a new patron and I love what you built. I’m just getting to grips with Foundry and your modules help me immensely.

I completely understand Sebastian, thanks for the concern and for the transparency. Hang in there mate!

You gotta look after you first mate!

This is crazy times for everyone. Thank you for being transparent. :)
