Developer Update: Two major issues & Status board

Communication Channels

I am currently leaning on using Patreon as the major source of general information. I like Discord to directly talk to you, but I find not the ideal solution for providing information like the one below, even with dedicated announcement channels.  Please provide feedback if you like this format and frequency or if it's too much, thanks! Otherwise, I will just upload to youtube where you can opt-in for notifications for new videos, too.

Video Transcript

In this video I am describing the two major issues that are significant show-stoppers for some users: So if you are experiencing the describes issues, rest assured that fixing those have top priority right now.

1) Connecting to FVTT reloads the Foundry tab automatically. This will again break the connection, and will repeat (sometimes) endlessly. During beta, we could reload the extension in Chrome's extension management panel, effectively solving this breaking issue. When loading an extension from the webstore, the reload button is not avaiable to us any longer, which is rather unfortunate.

2) (Batch) imports are or seem to stall. Along a tip on how to speed up the process in general, I was working intensively on smoothing the communitation between source parser and extension, because that parser moves the most data back and forth.

Both issues are currently the most pressing ones to address and I am working solely to make importing smoother by squishing errors found in the logs of the parsers and find the root cause of the reload by trying to trigger it on my dev environment with insane verbosity levels. So far no joy at least on that department.

Status board

Additionally and as a side-effect on working intensively on the source parser today, I created a status page, already accessible on the staging environment right now: https://www.vtta.dev/status

This is a display of the source parser's capabilities and will be automatically updated once it learns new sourcebooks, new scene adjustments or new rolltables. It will replace the Github project board that needed manual updating, and who am I kidding? I am bad at manual things.

That"s great to hear, thanks for sharing your experience!

Sebastian Will

Thank you for the suggestion to put both D&D Beyond and Foundry tabs in the foreground. My Candlekeep Mysteries import had stalled when I first tried it, but with both in foreground tabs the import worked perfectly.
