The issue is that he achieved that height when you seemingly unable to joke about anyone. So…he does what he can, including subverting expectation style: he make seem like he is about say something offending in first half of the joke, only to say kind completely and support. Funny enough, people are still mean to each other and using foul language, so he can joking in his old style (he probably did it at the start of his career), but to wussy to do it in current time. All because he can lose everything he tried to reach.

Especially in comprising to their little sister Karen (who is sitting on same table with him). I believe Matt Stone once explained that Kevin occasionally running away from home to start a better live, but so far not seceding and returning home when things getting too tough (he is still 11 or 12, after all).
