TPF Release 4.6 Preview

Hey all!

It's that time again: I'm a nearing completion of the next major update for TPF which will be release 4.6. I estimate a release on June, 26th or 27th, provided Simon hits his own deadline for releasing Adamant 5.0 on June, 25th. Otherwise, we'll delay a bit.

Features

Performance Guide

As you may have noticed from the above list, TPF 4.6 will be even more demanding on your hardware than previous versions. Our INI settings are now based on the BethINI High preset and the DynDOLOD configuration is now on High with 3D tree LOD by default.

However, you can still enjoy TPF on mid- to low-end hardware!

The new performance guide covers a variety of performance improvements: Regenerating INI files, the return of Cathedral Landscapes for FPS-friendly grass, ENB alternatives, a performance configuration for DynDOLOD, and optionally scaling down the resolution.

Users of the manual guide can apply whichever of the tweaks they like.

For Wabbajack, there will be a second "Performance" profile available in Mod Organizer 2 with DynDOLOD on Medium with 2D tree LOD, optimised INI settings, and less FPS-hungry grass mods. The Game Folder Files folder will also include both Rudy ENB and Serio's ENB for you to choose from.

After 4.6

Once TPF 4.6 is released, I plan to push a small update for WTP (my Fallout 4 Wabbajack list) before I fully focus on an entirely new project:

It's been well-known for some time now that I've been planning a beginner's guide. The time has finally come for me to start working on a first draft, and this will likely occupy me for the next few weeks or even months. I am incredibly excited to collaborate with a number of awesome people on the project. I will update you guys on this as soon as I have something to show for.

Of course, there are also plans for TPF. I have a rough idea of what I want in TPF 4.7 but more importantly, there will be a substantial update for TPF-X in the near future. I have decided that, in order to bring TPF-X to Wabbajack users, it will have to undergo some changes.

Since I have no idea how long a first release of the beginner's guide will take, I cannot give you a timeline. I have six weeks of summer holidays ahead of me which can either be very productive if depression doesn't decide to show up. I may also decide to release the beginner's guide in chunks and return to TPF in between so I have some variation. Once again, I'll update you guys once I have something concrete to say.

On Sinitar - that essay I wrote

In other news, I was bored last Friday and started to work on an essay on the topic of Sinitar. It turned out ever-so-slightly more comprehensive than I had originally intended and now clocks in at 29 pages (with plenty of pictures). It also did quite well on reddit.

---

And I believe that's it. Hope y'all are as excited as I am about future of the TPF website as a whole with all those new things on the horizon. I'm greatly looking forward to finally get started with the beginner's guide since I've been talking and thinking about it for such a long time now! My reddit post sharing the essay on Sinitar had plenty of comments that showed how desperately this community is in need of a comprehensive introduction to modding.

Okay, back to work, 4.6 won't finish itself. Happy modding!
