Radial Rumble [Pin ]

Pin picked up his sports bag and stuffed all his things into it in no order and in a ball. He had about twenty minutes to get out of the church without anyone stopping him. If he took any longer, Eris would come looking for him and if anyone stopped him, they wouldn't let him leave. Although he had tried to explain his position on this, no brother supported him. Nor was anything new. Any suggestions he had made about it had been dismissed, like a small child no one wanted to listen to because he was just talking nonsense.
He held his breath until he made it to the monorail station at Raziel Square. He entered just before the doors closed and sat down on one of the seats, hugging his sports bag. Doubts, which had not plagued him throughout the preparation process, were beginning to trouble him now - what if he got out of control and ended up discovering the secret of the Church? He shrank back in his seat with a knot in his stomach and Rubi's eager murmur inside his head.
The club was on the outskirts, somewhere between the periphery and the dump, where Raziel's lax rules became even laxer. It was called the Radial Rumble, because it was located on an old airfield, of which only decorative propellers and its main pavilion remained.
Pin was amazed and shocked by the cage that served as a ring. Men and women paraded through a line to sign up for the star battle: King of the Jungle. A wild competition to be the last man standing and one in which he hoped Rubi would want to participate. They both shared a taste for fighting, although they had a very different view of it.
"Next..." A woman with grey hair and chewing gum loudly motioned him to the table, "Hey, little guy, I think you're lost. This is not the toilet queue."
"No, of course not, I'm here to participate," the woman said nothing, just looked him up and down, "Please?"
"Very well. You'll know...’ She tapped the postmark on his dorsal and then held it out to him, “Go to door three so you can change...” Pin nodded enthusiastically and then followed her instructions.
Inside the changing rooms it smelled of sweat and humidity. Everyone already there had at least a head and half a body on him. He changed, unnoticed, and only got some attention and mischievous laughter as he made his way with the others to the cage.
There were about 30 people in the ring, and the surrounding stands were full of drunken spectators gambling money on the dorsal numbers of each of the participants. What Pin didn't know was that only one person had bet money on him and they would have taken a big payday if he hadn't bitten the ground.
He jumped up and down a couple of times, trying to warm up before the bell rang. From the other side of the cage, a huge guy who looked like a hungry orangutan gave him a smile that was anything but friendly. Pin didn't see the danger until the fight started and the man covered the distance between them in two strides. He grabbed him by the head and lifted him up like a rag doll.
‘Well, well... You look like you're going to get the shit beat out of you...", Rubi's voice didn't help. His idea of the two of them working together wasn't working. He'd rather watch them beat him to a pulp than pitch in.
"All right." If he had to do it alone, he would. He propelled himself with his legs and grabbed the man's arm with them. With inertia he managed to twist it until he released his hold and locked it to the ground. The man howled in pain and three more fighters approached, intrigued by what had just happened. Pin looked in all directions. He was being surrounded and now the element of surprise was not going to work.
"You may have got rid of the fool, but not this one," Pin gritted his teeth. Although he tried to show his best face to everyone, he was no stranger to criticism, neither from outside nor from within.
He quickened his pace and that caused his opponents to do the same. All at once they rushed towards the centre. Pin made himself smaller than he already was and let himself slide across the floor until he was in his opponents' guard. One hit the ground and the other two fell, but got up quickly. Pin didn't slow down, he swung a leg over the cage and kicked the one closest to him in the face. The ring rumbled as he landed round on the ground. The last of his opponents raised his hands in surrender and decided to go in search of another fighter.
The crowd cheered him on. They bellowed his number like a rock star and Pin blushed.
"Don't get your hopes up, you little fool, because none of them want to see you standing when the round is over." He was breathing so hard he couldn't even command Rubi to shut up. In the first 10 minutes of combat they had already dragged five people out, but the pace slowed the longer it went on. The fighters were more resilient and better trained. The one big advantage, given that his demon didn't want to help, was that he was much tougher than the rest of them. He could spend the rest of the fight jumping and dodging without breaking a sweat, but that wouldn't help him win.
He took the initiative this time, hitting who he thought he could beat with some ease. Three people went down before a woman with cybernetic extensions on her arms and the appearance of having abused steroids, crossed his path. She was not only strong, she was fast, savage and struck with murderous intent.
"Don't run away from mum," she said. Rubi burst out laughing inside his head.
"You know what's funny? It's possible that this one gave you more affection than your own mother." Pin, he clenched his fists, he felt so much anger inside him. ‘Come on, don't tell me you haven't thought about it... She only had you to be a demon's meat suit and even at that you're no good....".
"Shut up!" If he wasn't going to help him, at least he could be out of the way. The woman looked puzzled, but not so much that she didn't realise he had frozen in his steps. She charged her metal fist and slammed it into his chin without a second thought.
The next thing Pin remembers is the mechanical hum of a machine and the voice of a woman talking to herself.
"...Test subject number 34, seems to have a regenerative system twelve times faster than that of an ordinary human. But his qualities seem to be diminished by his physical limitations, so I'll try him..." He thought it must be a television on, but he barely felt he could concentrate on what he was saying. Pin tried to bring a hand to his head, but the movement was half-finished as the chains that imprisoned him pulled his arms downwards.
"But, what..." Fear hastened his awakening, but it also alerted the person he had picked up to the noise of a recording.
"Oh, wow, you're awake now,’" said the woman, "That will help me. Her hands manipulated a drip attached to his arm, which, even as he struggled, he couldn't stop her from touching. Where was he? Who was this person? All the questions were muffled in the back of his mind, which is where the drug sent him. The scientist had released Rubi and locked him up. What had she done?

We liked very much the idea of showing what the characters were doing before the story... But with Pin of all people it was very necessary. There we can see more of his relationship with Rubi, but above all, how Pin is much more than he appears to be. We can't wait for you to see more of "the new him" in the next episodes 🤗

2024-08-06 20:46:05 +0000 UTCAh, this fills a gap (I think?)! Really interesting background and a situation I would not have imagined Pin in before! I'm surprised Rubi did not take charge here😮 I'm also still tense but eager to see more of the new version of Pin💓
