Short or long?

Lately I have been having a lot of ideas for stories, especially A/B/O ones because I've been so much into that these last couple of months, and I'm trying to think of short stories with smut scenes, but tbh I really enjoy writing the characters' development and I feel like I get very limited when it's a short au, since everything basically revolves around sex. But I also don't wanna write longer stories if you're more into the short ones, because writing long stories takes much more effort and time, so I would like to know what you guys prefer.
