One Gold Piece Changes

TLDR: We’ve closed our My Mini Factory shop for selling of old STL files, and the patreon will be the exclusive way to gain access to our STL files. (MMF Library for both old and new releases will remain for Patreon members)

A lot has changed in the 3D printing and patreon space since we started One Gold Piece a bit over three years ago. The technology has improved massively, as well as the general adoption and accessibility of 3D printing. From a hobbyist, gamer, and crafter standpoint this is amazing to see. From a business aspect it can create some challenges.

These days there are dozens of very affordable patreons or tribes around. Three years ago we entered into the scene with what we considered an incredible value for money proposition, offering a small line up of often quite unique models each month for the sum of a single dollar.

Our main plan at the time was to support the 3D printing scene with very cool sculpts, generally make enough from the patreon to cover sculpting and operating costs, and make most of our income from doing physical prints or resin casts of these sculpts. Which is one of the many reasons we have never offered merchant tiers. Wyrm Forge and Westfalia Miniatures are companies that normally create, produce, sell, and ship amazing physical miniatures, we’re not digital companies.

Anyways, the world has changed and we’ve gotten a lot of feedback at exhibits, from game stores interested in stocking our miniatures, and so forth lately. The short of it is, that widespread availability of our STL files is a problem. We’ve also seen this in other areas with the number of sites and stores illegally selling physical prints of our sculpts and so forth.

So we’ve made the decision to discontinue availability of past releases for sale on My Mini Factory. The One Gold Piece patreon will be the exclusive way to obtain our STL releases. Note: we will still distribute our monthly releases to member's MMF libraries. Thats just the 3D miniatures "Steam" of the world these days, and is a safe and secure way to make sure all of you retain access to our files.

Meanwhile our shop over at https://wyrmforge.com will continue to expand to offer more of our sculpts either printed in high quality mixes of resin for both detail and durability, or done in traditional cast resin. Some may even end up being available in old school spin cast white metal.

We appreciate the support in this multi-year journey with you all, and look forward to continuing to deliver unique and fun sculpts at an amazing value. With the above changes, we will also be evaluating the tiers we currently offer here, and communicate in the near future any changes we have planned.

P.S. Can I do a late Pledge for the missed KS and get the files for the Halflings anywhere, this would be great. :)

Fomorian

I totally understand your statement and thoughts, but what about trying to get files from the past then, if I wasn't Patreon until now? Will there be a way to get old files somehow or are these missed completely then (esp. when you want to expand/complete your collection)? :)

Fomorian

I too backed the halflings kickstarter and am now trying to get my hands on the war wagon and ogre. Can you be of any assistance?

With this announcement in mind, I backed the halfling army frontier and missed the warwagon and ogre artillery files. Is there any way for me to purchase these stls?

Greg Shoemaker

I had sort of wondered whether there was enough volume here for this to make sense. I’m a big believer in low-price-high-volume, but it didn’t look as though you guys got the numbers you need (and deserve).
