Q&A: Plot pacing for porn comics.
Added 2018-01-11 10:18:34 +0000 UTCSo, per my post thinking-out-loud, I have a Celaeno idea on the brain and was thinking if I can turn it into something more substantial than an image set. Like a porn comic.
Thing is, I'm not very good at comics in general, the plot for Zodihavoc #0 isn't even set in stone, I make shit up as I go along.
But as with all comics, there's a plot, a setup and a conclusion. What happens in between vary slightly. Regular comics, like shows and movies, toss escalating problems for the heroes to solve, have a conflict or two here and there.
Porn comics I believe have a trigger, like cheap 80s porno about the pizza delivery guy getting paid and the conveniently lonely housewife has no money.
So, couple of things I'd like to pick at, out of say, a 10 page comic:
- How many pages of build up before the trigger is too long? Assuming at least half for the smutty action, 2 pages seems a bit tight and rushed, 5 seems a bit long.
- Pillow talk / dirty talk? SFX? I'm biased towards silence, letting the action speak for itself. I'm also not above ruining the atmosphere with jokey things *insert squishy noises here*
- X-ray, is it a big thing?
My first proper foray will probably be very tame and vanilla, but a good practice no less.
Also, it'd be remissed if I did not admit that a 12-page comic with monthly release sets me up for a whole year, or half year if I double-page release, easing my quota. I can see the appeal of it.

Ooh comics! I've got opinions and I'm excited for this prospect! Build up isn't necessarily important, it's the context. It can start with BAM hot sex! (Or something sexy happening), then give some character moments and then shuffle back into sexy content. What really matters is that the characters have chemistry, that what's making the sexy stuff happening is charmingly motivated, or that the scenario is so sexy it speaks for itself. Pillow talk is only worthwhile if it's establishing the connection between the characters or world. It seems like we're on the same page about dumb noises and jokes. Funny porn is great, but it's weird how often porn wants to be comedy like there's an expectation. I think x-ray is silly as heck. I mean, it's not *not* sexy, but it's not special and doesn't express anything worthwhile as far as I'm concerned. <3

That’s at http://buttsmithy.com/archives/comic/p1 . — as for xray, it’s a thing, it can be quite enjoyable, I personally think that when used right it adds a lot. I enjoyed “xray” when it showed the face of the person giving oral, for example, so you get the moment from both perspectives. I don’t think it has to be there every single time; but there are times where it’s a lot of fun.
