INKtiger: A character is called "genre savvy" if they show knowledge of certain aspects or tropes of the works they are in, for example a teenager telling his group not to split up in a thriller movie. Here we have a demon-slaying hero who stumbled upon a convenient, inviting but apparently deserted hot spring -- one that he decided to enjoy his urges in. A genre-savvy hero would notice these facts and, while probably still would have gotten pounced, would not be surprised by that development.
