Big Update Post (All May Madness songs revealed! :O), April 29th

Hey Patrons!

The video for Heavy Lobster is just about finished and will be up shortly after this post. This past week, I finally did something I've been putting off for years and years: I updated my operating system. Lame I know, but I've been having to update a lot of random things since then that have taken an unprecedented amount of time at some points, so it set me back a couple of days which is why the video is coming a bit later than the early download this time around.

But any way, in more exciting news... I've finally decided on all of the remake songs that will be coming in this year's May Madness!

These were some of the toughest choices I've had to make for May Madness yet, all of the songs in the top 10 most requested (both from the Patreon discussion post and the public May Madness request entry form) were songs that I wanted to remake... but for those I couldn't get to this year, we at least have next May! Or maybe later this year, who knows. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I've already revealed The Ultimate Show, which was the most requested song among you all about halfway into the Patreon May Madness Discussion post. It also ended up being the #2 song from the public May Madness Request Form, so that one is sure to make a lot of people happy.

And now, the others:

First up, the Battle and Boss Battle theme from Golden Sun! I first did this song as a dual remix back in 2013, and it was the second song into the return of GaMetal and the Jonny Atma rebrand. This was tied for 4th/5th place (note that the top 3 were also a 3 way tie) among Patrons, and placed 7th in the public form. I wanted to remake this in last year's May Madness, but other songs edged it out. Not this time!

Golden Sun Battle / Boss will be the first song in May. For the rest, the exact order will be decided later.

Bowser songs have appeared in 3 of the 4 May Madness events we've had (only missing 2016), but we're going to keep his streak going this year with the return of Bowser's Rage / King of the Koopas from Paper Mario. This was tied for 1st/2nd/3rd among Patrons and placed 8th in the public form.

This was another song that I wanted to do last year that got edged out, thus leading me to choose it this year.

Now here's one you may or may not have expected: City Escape from Sonic Adventure 2. I first covered this song in the first Sonic Fan Medley, and have been getting requests for a full version ever since. This managed to tie for 7th/8th place among Patrons (no easy feat for a medley appearance song, which tend to get chosen far less than normal songs), and was the most requested of the medley appearance songs on the public form.

Fun fact about this song, which is really what led me to choosing it: I've been sitting on an 80% complete version of a full City Escape remix that I made back in 2017 that I never got around to finishing. I'll most likely end up re-recording a few bits, but that should make doing this one a piece of cake.

I may or may not do both an instrumental and vocal version, similar to how we did with Lifelight. It will depend on how much time I have, but for now a vocal version will be the default choice.

And here's the winner of the public May Madness request form: Zero Two from Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards. Who'd of thought eh? This was #1 on the public form by a long shot, and also placed #6 among Patrons.

I know a lot of people are also interested in an Edo Bean version. I've reached out to her a few days ago but have yet to hear back, so I can't confirm anything on that front yet. For now, I can only confirm there will be a normal instrumental version.

And finally, the last remake of May Madness 2019 will be the long awaited revamp of Dancing Mad from Final Fantasy VI, my personal favorite video game song of all time.

This was yet another I wanted to do last year, but decided to hold off since it's a pretty long one. Since I know this is going to be the toughest of the remakes, it will be last song for this year's May Madness event. Just incase I have to spill into June again, haha.

This was tied for 1st/2nd/3rd place among Patrons and placed 4th on the public form, so it was a no-brainer.

As for new songs for the month, I'll be trying my best to squeeze in at least 2 from the current to-do list. One of which will be Life is at Risk from 3D Block Game Heroes, and the other I will decide on a little bit later.

So there's your May Madness lineup folks! But before I take off, I do have one more thing to discuss: what about the second April Fools special?

Well, it turns out I'm gonna need a little bit more time with April Fools #2. I can at least guarantee you that it will be done before the end of May. I don't want to spoil too much, but I will say that when it's finished, you'll understand why it's been taking me so long. :)

I felt the least I could do for you is officially confirm/reveal what song it is:

The long awaited Pepsi Man is coming to GaMetal to quench your thirst.

That is all, see you in the next post! :D

TL;DR: Heavy Lobster video coming shortly after this post, confirmed May Madness remake lineup: The Ultimate Show, Golden Sun Battle / Boss, Bowser's Rage / King of the Koopas, City Escape, Zero Two, and Dancing Mad. April Fools #2 slightly delayed to next month, it is indeed Pepsi Man. Thank you for being amazing! :)

Comments

As excited as I am for Zero-Two, Dancing Mad, and Pepsi Man, the amount of possibilities for a full metal cover of City Escape get me really pumped, like whether the second verse will be auto-tuned, like in Sonic Generations' Classic mix, have the extra bit from the Modern mix, or include the G.U.N. Truck chase music! I can't wait to see what you'll do with the song! xD

Too bad you narrowly missed the Pepsiman 20th anniversary, but that's a perfect choice!
