Hello, Rogues! Jason here. Thanks again for being a Patron. It may sound trite, but you're the ones keeping this ship afloat. We're currently working on tiered goals for the Patreon so that everyone can know what we're shooting for. In order to make sure this is the best experience for everyone, we'd like to know -  how are you enjoying being a part of the Modern Rogue Patreon?

What could we do better?

Is there anything you *don't* like about this Patreon? Perks, timing, etc?

Do you think we should switch to a 'per episode' contribution?

What would you like to get out of being a Patron?

Answer below! We're looking forward to hearing your thoughts and improving the experience.

I am kinda against per episode funding, but I don't really mind. One thing i would like is an episode on tips for playing poker, aka some easy moves/ strategies and a refresher on the rules so you can look like a true gentleman! Keep up the good work

Dom Pickston

I am indifferent on per month/ per episode funding. I would like to see episodes on how to act in social situations like how to act at a cocktail party or even how to host a cocktail party. Since I can make fancy cocktails now I want to show that off.

I'm late. Busy. I like you Brian and Jason as people and also enjoy your content a lot even though I'm several episodes behind. I'm mostly writing so you know there is probably a % of Patreons like me who contribute but can't consume it as it comes out. Remember you guys are already great. Anything else you do from now on is to make things greater. Relax, have fun, and stay awesome.

"How are you enjoying being a part of the Modern Rogue Patreon?" Yeah, I enjoy supporting the show, and the discord is nice. "What could we do better?" As the Modern Rogue, I've emailed Brian a few times with ideas for adding to the idea of the Modern Rogue (Short list: adding Scholar & Engineer, creating levels to each of the aspects so we could play along at home and have a sense of achievement about it, and a few others) and enguagement. As the patreon, there's room for adding to the experience, mostly by gamifying the experience to some degree. For example you could move the store discount to being based on how well people answer questions from the most recent episodes, some of the answers would be in the patreon only parts, so every active viewer could get a discount if they wanted, but only patreons could get the biggest discount. "Is there anything you *don't* like about this Patreon? Perks, timing, etc?"" Negatives? A $20 tier might be nice. I'm an 8x sized person currently so the shirt level ($30) isn't likely something I could participate in, so maybe have a couple options on each tier? "Do you think we should switch to a 'per episode' contribution?"" No, most everyone has a limit per month they can afford, so I think you'd be better off asking us to design our own perfect teir and what we would pay for that every month. Could even make it a contest, let the patreons do the work to generqate a field of ideas you can then cherry pick from. "What would you like to get out of being a Patron?" A sense of contribution. Patreon has basically two kinds of projects for me, those I'm purchasing something month to month, and those I'm putting money into because I believe in the idea. I think I get the Modern Rogue idea (learning/demonstrating microskills to encourage the audiance to pursue anything they want to do by showing that anything is approachable and achievable?) and I want to contribute more than just money to the project because it's an idea I can get behind. I know, I'm weird.

I would say behind the scenes live streams patreons only

TheInternetLord

"What could we do better?" I don't think much, honestly I already mentioned the biggest thing would be outlining what YOU guys would like to see the show become and what the path to that looks like. I think having established, quantifiable, actionable goals will help increase contributions and interest. I would definitely say stick to a per month contribution, I think it just keeps things simple and straight forward. What I want to get out of being a patron is basically seeing you guys grow, 2-3 main channel videos a week would be AMAZING even if they weren't all typical episodes, if you did stuff like little DIY projects or something, maybe just answering Patron questions. Personally I find all of your videos amusing, my favorites are the one's surrounding espionage, hacking, and factoids like hidden Taco Bell menu and Netflix stuff. I like how you guys put it an "encyclopedia of things you AREN'T supposed to know". I think the current patron perks are more than reasonable, I enjoy behind the scenes, getting to communicate with you guys. On a side I also like when your sponsors align with the theme of the episode; I know its a difficult thing to do but I LOVE using Privacy.com now, it has CHANGED the way I purchase things online. Signing up for 1-3 day trials without having to worry about my credit card getting charged hidden fees is AWESOME. Keep up the good work guys, been a fan for about a year and only see you guys going up!

Excellent. Thanks for chiming in. Your feedback helps. - Jason

FYI, here is a "hack" you can do for the per episode contributions. If you want to contribute $5 to a creator, set your per episode contribution to $5 and then set a maximum monthly contribution to $5. That gives the creator $5 for the first episode of each month and that's it.

What could we do better? I can't think of anything. You guys are awesome and bring on some great guests. I personally don't care for the stuff about alcohol since I don't drink but otherwise, great work! Is there anything you *don't* like about this Patreon? Perks, timing, etc? Nope. Honestly, I just support you guys since I enjoy your content. The Patreon stuff is just a bonus but I'd continue to be a Patreon if there were no additional perks. Do you think we should switch to a 'per episode' contribution? NO!!! I hate the per episode model. What would you like to get out of being a Patron? I'm happy with everything I get. No need for any more.

Ram Rangaswamy

Outstanding! Glad you really like the live shoots. I can never tell if people are into those. And thank you for the feedback on the monthly vs per ep. - Jason

Great idea! Just need to find a good expert. I'll put that at the top of the list. - Jason

Working on the secret mission thing. I'll bring up the store discounts with the team ASAP. - Jason

I really love watching the live recording sessions, especially since usually it is just a very small group and the chat window is not in a constant overdrive mode. I have the feeling you might think it gets quite boring for us when there is no action going on, but quite in the contrary, watching you giving birth to a full episode in real time (including all the flaws/camera angle resets/opener takes, pauses, spontaneous hardware store visits and makeshift Q&As) is what I enjoy the most. Regarding the "per episode" contribution: I am personally not a huge fan of those. I like the way it is at the moment. So keep up creating the awesome content you're making and being the great guys you are (all of you). I think you currently have a quite positive community backing you (just from looking at all the interesting Discord discussions). Cheers, Uli

I would like for you Guys do a rogues Guide to Beard Grooming.

I like the show as it is now, but don't let that stop you from adding something new or mixing things up for a test. Regarding a per episode Patreon campaign, please keep in mind that would result in a pay cut from me and I assume other $5/month patrons I think I'd only back at $1/episode level and it would lower your average "take home" pay even before capping is factored in.

I've been loving every minute of the content that everyone on Team Rouge have been putting up. From the behind the scenes look, to being a fly on the wall and to the first pass edit are great. Maybe could do an episode that deals with snow :P for us Rouges who live in areas with it. The only other thing I haven't seen much of are secret missions or much discounts to the shop. But that really doesn't have to do with the content and plus I may be missing all that out on the Discord since I don't get on there to often. Keep up the amazing work! Modern Rouge is 1 of 2 that I support on Patreon and hopefully will always be here!

More behind the scenes? Perfect. We can do that. :) - Jason

Good to know. Thanks, Jerry. - Jason

Good point. We need to schedule some livestreams specifically to accommodate our community members elsewhere in the world. - Jason

Thanks for the feedback! I appreciate all of the kind words. - Jason

I'm enjoying being a member of the Modern Rogues Patreon, I'm glad I can contribute more towards your guys work than just trying to convince other people to watch your stuff. I would like to see more behind the scenes or making of videos when you guys would stream those I really enjoyed them but I know there's probably a lot of places you aren't able to do that. Nothing I can think of about being a Patreon that I don't like. I'm not positive how the person episode option would work but I think I would prefer the monthly payment that I'm currently doing. Not sure of anything else I would like to get other than maybe options to buy additional shirts lol.

I'm loving everything so far! I don't think a per episode model would be better. You guys have a consistent weekly schedule.

Your support is sincerely appreciated. We'll have the goals up soon-ish, so I'd love to get your opinion on those when they're posted. -- Jason

Thanks for the feedback! We've been talking about the undercover missions quite a bit. I want to have some update on that for everyone very soon! - Jason

For me personally, I'm on this Patreon because I really enjoy your content and I want to support you so you can keep it up. I don't care about rewards at all.

Matt

I'd echo the meetup opportunities - if/when Brian (and Jason?) are on the road it would be great to have a heads up about meetups. Especially useful to know ahead of time where Brian may show up.

JOE Houde

First of all, you guys are the ultimate bad-asses, thank you for doing what you are doing. I think you guys are doing a fantastic job for everyone, especially us patrons. The only thing I'm curious about (and I know you guys are working on it) are the secret undercover missions you said you were going to give us. That was one of the big reasons I became a patron, other than, you know, all the awesome you send our way. Keep on Rogue-ing! (yes that's a word)

Just so you know on Patreons that have a per episode tier you can cap your contribution usually, so if you only wanted to do 10$ per month you could cap your contribution to that.

I agree with what others are saying. I don't see much that needs improvement. The show is fun and informative and while I am in the Discord chat, I'd still throw in my small contribution without that.

Jerry Heiselman

Hey Jason - first thought would be to move this to a google survey so you can have better control over the data that you're going to get.... take that for what it's worth... on to your questions: • What could we do better - not much from what I can tell, you're delivering on what was asked and frankly I'm happy with it! • Anything I don't like about being a Patreon.... honestly, no - I know you guys are working hard for my money and I'm cool with it. • Switch to "per episode" - nope - hate per episode, it's harder to balance a budget that way for me and for you, so I would probably not do that. • What would I like to get out of being a patron... you know, maybe more meetups... I mean, Brian goes to events and stuff all the time with Night Attack and Scam School (ok, less Scam School now), but I'd like to have some meetups (not in Austin) where we can go with the <> team and do something (see Brian and ask about BigDiz). That's my 2¢ ---- PEACE BINCHES!

James Thatcher

I'm enjoying being a Patron and am happy with the perks I am getting. Personally I am a bigger fan of the per month model than the per episode model since I contribute to a few other creators if you switch to a per episode I might have to lower my contribution so I'm not spending all my money on Patreon. But do whatever you think is best to continue to grow the channel.

Nick McKiel

So far I'm loving it, the only thing I could possibly complain about is the timing of the livestreams, however I am in a completely different time zone (from the UK), so I expected them to finish super late for me. Since the vods are available to watch however, I still have the ability to see what happened anyway, so to be 100% honest, I don't think there is a need to change how it's done. I love the content that is being put out, and I don't think there's really a need to change things around (unless others disagree ofc).

What could we do better? That is a tough question. You guys really put together some fun and engaging videos. I have written emails to Brian in the past where I suggested that you focus on cool tips and tricks that allow you to thrive in any given situation (vague and vast, I know). For example, lock picking (which you have done), diving into drinks like a goddamn gentilman, and so on. You guys have been knocking that stuff out of the park, so I am happy to support you in your further endevors. Is there anything you don't like about this Patreon? Perks, timing, etc? Personally, I don't really utilitize the perks or really any of the benefits of being a patron. I just love what you guys do, so I am happy to throw a small amount of money your way so you can continue doing it. Do you think we should switch to a per episode contribution? Not solely. Like I said, I am happy to throw my $5 at you a month to help contribute. Please leave this as an option. What would you like to get out of being a Patron? Nothing special. Keep doing what you are doing and you will continue to have my support.
