First Pass Edit: MR089 - Ghost Hunting

At 2:11:45, 80.9% of our footage hit the cutting room floor.

So occasionally, I was thinking once per quarter or so, I feel like it might be worth unlocking a single patron video to the public, which would act as a reminder that we have a Patreon (since we're pretty soft on advertising it in the show proper) and it would give non-patrons a taste of what's otherwise a patron-exclusive. This FPE would be the first, but of course with a ~4 day patron lead.

Let me know in the comments or on Discord (or wherever else) if that's just a terrible idea, we're still figuring things out along the way but I think that strikes a decent balance between exposure and exclusivity. This FPE in particular is a fun one since it was comprised of a few different parts: the wealth of interview material that either wasn't used or was chopped out of context, the uncut view of the ghost hunt, and a lot of Brian and Jason crafting the narrative of the deconstruction in such a way that they didn't come off as completely dismissive of believers.

Brandt here - Those are some good points. We’ve discussed basically filling that slot up front (first 15-30 seconds) that typically declares sponsorships with a Patreon plug every few episodes, we’ve just been forgetful about actually trying it. I’m reluctant to do much more than that inside an actual episode because I️ really don’t want to risk bogging down our staple crop. Maybe 3 months (and regularity) is a little much for the unlocks, but my big motivation is to give an accurate sample before buying in. FPEs have refined into a relatively coherent style since the very first experimental FPE was published, and a non-patron would have no idea what a live Q&A or episode recording might look like, though admittedly those are of a small sample size right now. I’m running through a good number of options through my head, but talking it out helps.

I wouldn't mind but I think you should mention Patreon perhaps briefly once an episode or so. Larger Channels like SciShow mention Patreon at the end of each video and it doesn't drive people away. Even smaller channels tend to mention Patreon often without any deleterious effect. I wouldn't mind a free first pass edit being shown to the public but I would suggest waiting at least 6 months to a year after initial airing so people know that its just a taste, you can't just wait 2 or 3 months and months and get a free prize. Those are just my suggestions having been a patron on other channels and being on YouTube frequently.
