Episode Ideas?

Howdy, Rogues! I’m sitting here listening to organ music and steepling my fingers as I plan the next batch of episodes. I’ve got a month to prepare!

I’ve got books and emails and years of research in front of me. PLENTY of ideas for Modern Rogue.

But what do YOU want to see? If we can afford it and it won’t get us killed or arrested, we might film it this summer!

I had a BIG episode planned for this, but it fell apart. I’ll revisit.

I think we need to.

Building traps. Could be a series of episodes... starting with traps as pranks, going over to traps for hunting and survival, finally man traps to defend your home (alarm traps) , while on the run (quick boobie traps) or for supporting your ambush on a protected evil genius hide out.

I would love to see the modern rogue go fishing! And turn it into a competition between Brian and Jason! Ideally I’m thinking either two diy set ups versus each other or maybe one diy versus a cheap starter rod from any box store. An afternoon of sun, a few beers, fun, and maybe even a fish or two! It might be fun to try and limit a diy rod to whatever you can find in the shop, or take off all the breaks and make a full custom diy rod, or just a hand line for maximum simplicity.

How about something to do with scaling buildings. Idea's could include: Ropes, grappling hooks, Thief's hitch. Abseiling, Rap jumping.

Michael Byrne

Also, never pay for winter or summer air in your tires.

Victor Perez

How to juggle chainsaws. BETTER RESET THAT INJURY COUNTER! Also, common rip offs that mechanics and contractors do (like filing your brake rotors so they look new instead of getting you a new one).

Victor Perez

I have a few of his books!

Hmmm. Funny you should mention that. I have an episode I want to do that ties into that, but it’s going to take a lot of work.

We’re filming a bunch of stuff with The Beerists soon-ish. And bespoke suits is at the top of my list!

I got lost down the rabbit hole! Need to pick that one back up.

Good one!

No.

More Dapper Rogue stuff. How to dress nicely and carry self defense tools with style.

Doable, but hard. Requires concentrated nitric acid.

Maybe an episode where Bonnie and Allison discuss “How to live with a Modern Rogue”.

How would a Gentleman dress to impress/get the ladies?

Wow! Im like MEGA LATE but you guys should increase the "Brian Hurts himself" count and do these Popsicle stick knives and give them a test shoot with maximized DIY potential. Maybe compare them against Mistokediscos and your Styrofoam knives. Example here: <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sLwFkeXbWvY" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sLwFkeXbWvY</a> (popsicle stick csgo knives).

Robotics? You could look at getting Simone Giertz in when she's recovered from her surgery.

Blacksmithing/forging your own swords to spa with would be fucking epic

Aidan Jeffes

We all want to see the best weapons for zombie apocalypse or making those weapons quick and easy. I want to see some movie shooting techniques so Bryce and Brant have the ability to be on camera for once. Like talk about how movies shot from boats or choppers used chickens for getting a steady shot due to how they carry their head.

Crash (Not The Bandicoot)

I'd love to see more improvised weaponry. Thats always fun.

Could you answer if a power washer would make a good self defense weapon against a zombie horde? I've never seen it in any movie and some have a pretty high pounds per square inch. Maybe it will be enough to poke holes in their heads?

Bert

A follow-up on the Mead would be great. Also all of your episodes regarding cold-war era tech (short wave, bugs, etc) are definitely my favorites.

I like the episodes where you use common items as weapons or to make other "useful" items with them. For example, the rolled up magazine nunchakus, the gas masks, and such.

Bert

That would be awesome! The Modern Rogue meets Home Alone!

Well I would like an update on your mead project. Would also like to see some D&amp;D and LARPing stuff. I mean come on. You are “Rogues”, aren’t you?

Matt Cheek

ZNA productions collab.....

Build a MAME cabinet. :D

Oh, and slingshots/slings/wrist rockets/thrown stones comparison and training.

Saw your DnD Instagram post, so maybe something to do with board games or creating a DnD scenario. What about learning about crossbows since you already learned archery. Or even making your own crossbow out of everyday things. Maybe a series about Rum. kind of like what was done with Whiskey. Setting up house protection for cheap Today's episode (June 1st) was a great episode, wouldn't mind another like this as well

With July coming up, what about making and safe handling of fireworks? Along the lines of the episode on legislation, something on the purchase and permit process for Modern Rogue World Headquarters? In the same vein, a CPA explaining taxes. Tips and tricks for getting the most out of summer concerts/fairs, or other venues that rely on containment to raise prices for food and drink; things like how and what to secret in, learn about live audio engineering, and how to deal with crowds?

ABSINTHE

Hi Jason, I was saying to Brian you guys should devote a few episodes to the tricks, traps, contractors, planning your 7 acre development. After all all Rogues want to know how they would go about building a Rogue Land of their own.

Maybe a short episode on sharpening knives/axes.

A heist! I mean, not a REAL heist where you and Brian end up in prison making pruno again, but rather a staged heist. Or perhaps some sort of heist obstacle course that would demonstrate skills needed to successfully navigate one's way through any number of classic heist movies.

I mean, I'm not sure if there is any interest... But I'm not opposed to having an excuse to take a few days off and fly to Austin to cover importing and customs laws...

James Thatcher

Best non-lethal/non-gun home defense appliances... I've got little kids so I don't want a gun in my house right now.

James Thatcher

I really liked the episode on reading legislation. Something in that vein again would be awesome. Alternatively, maybe an episode about working with money or something?

Umm... open heart surgery? Maybe how to code HTML 3.2? If we're being serious, I think a tarot card episode woukd be a cool halloween special, or perhaps the ever-elusive "suit" episode

Build a leet gaming pc from scratch.

Chrissy Amber

being a modern rogue on a budget. how do you turn sub par cuts of meat and libations into a meal fit for a king.

Kyle Voltti

I think it would be cool if you guys could somehow set up drunk driving on a closed course.

How to make beef jerky or other manly snack foods.

Kyle Nishioka

Long distance motorcycle riding.

Making your own custom cuff links

John Payne

how to be the center of attention without being a douchebag: a treatise on social engineering at the bar and on the street

Whittling / wood carving

Justin Newnum

You've grilled steaks, so how about smoking meat? How much of a difference does using a different wood (heh heh) make? Wine appreciation and pairings would be an outstanding one, perhaps with another Blue Apron sponsorship. I'd love to see a challenge where one of you tries to drop off the grid and the other works with a PI to track him down. I'm betting Brian cannot stay off his phone long enough to stay hidden. Kind of a morbid one but also useful; the rogue's first aid kit. What should you always have on hand and what is just fluff they put in to charge more money?

Andrew Hackard

Couple thoughts: * DIY night vision scope / goggles (lots of tutorials on youtube) * How to roll a cigar * Improvised lockpicks * Getting out of handcuffs / Zipties/ general escapology * How to cheat at beerpong * How to tie flies / go fly fishing

Is there an optimal way to use a shield? Maybe a series on different types of shield through history.

Make an episode about surviving a nuculer apocalypse and maybe make a bug out bag for that theme or something like that

(for real though there must be a way to do it best; to get the best outcome?)

A while ago I wanted to suggest 'How to shave with a straight razor (or safety razor)' but I didn't think you'd want to sacrifice your luxurious beards. Plus it might break the Days-Since-An-On-Set-Injury meter.

Make your own soap or cologne or beard oil. Sewing skills like repairing a button. Other ways of tying ties, tying a bow tie, folding a pocket square. Deciphering clothing laundry symbols or how to iron. Shining shoes. How to do common household repairs. How to jump a car, how to and how not to put out a fire. How to change your own oil, what to check and how often to check things in your vehicle to keep it in top working order, how to change a flat, emergency gear to keep in your vehicle. Basic first aid skills ... maybe focusing on hand injuries.....

what about an episode on how to get arrested

noted bones haver maia cash

An episode on tDCS and TMZ Cobra. Or maybe a follow-up episode to the bug out bag where you survive one day using it :)

Perhaps an episode on suits.

Zachary Gagnon-Hartman

next Halloween episode maybe?

More gentlemen categorized stuff? Maybe like how to look fancy according to your shape idk.

Do an episode on necromancy.

Zachary Gagnon-Hartman

Might be a depressing topic, but are there psychological tricks to make yourself feel happy when you aren't?

I dunno some weird Texan stuff that you only see in Austin... More Beerists and Whisky Vault, more secret menu stuff... Bespoke suits

CastironWhisky

Mostly I want a linux episode, though. Stock Ubuntu and also Arch Linux would be good.

noted bones haver maia cash

Is there a way to create homemade flash paper? There must be, right? Ask Brian.

noted bones haver maia cash

Any ideas that are in any of William Gurstelle books.

That, or a linux setup episode... one is more valuable than the other and I think we both know which it is.

noted bones haver maia cash

Anything ever come of the situational awareness (OODA loop, etc) stuff?

Leathercraft! Such a gentlemanly hobby/craft and so very useful especially during SHTF times (if we ever see them)

Jason, please show us how to pants.
