Idk, I don’t think I am swayed either way. My partner works on an oil rig as an engineer so that is kinda in between? He is intelligent when it comes to lots of things and you obviously have to have a bit of smarts about you to be an engineer. He had to study a few years to do it. But it isn’t sitting at a desk.

I find handy men extremely appealing - it’s almost a dealbreaker for me, that a man can fix cars, electricity, plumbing, construction etc. But I also value intellect so highly. I have yet to find that in a tradesman, but fortunately there are brilliant men who can and WILL do handy work. My late husband was one of these. My ex BF after him, had some skills, but wouldn’t use them because he was so neurotic about getting dirty. His mom really screwed him over. I feel raising sons who aren’t all-around handy is like raising daughters who can’t cook, clean, sew, mother etc. These are basic gendered skills each should be proficient in - & willing to use!

In the fire service, we have a saying. Whenever there is a tool that is designed ergonomically, or with simple instructions attached, or some preventative measure to prevent breaking it or valves or plugs shaped in a way where only the correct plug will fit in the correct port, we say to each other “look, it’s fire fighter proof” lol. Most of my time worked as a Journeymen electrician / electronic technician. Four-year apprenticeship. With specialty training. End of my starting training had a Card and A.A.S. Work can move from large metropolitan to rural areas. $70,000 area for my income. Could make more was happy At end of an assignment. Work, looked good, functioned, and improved someone’s life some. Many of my lady friends had Bachelor Degree, Associate Degree or waitress. Doing work that uses your mind and body, many women liked it. University women had a small barrier that needed to be breached.
