Deadline: 31 October 2025
Calling all creatives, cooks & lovers of the outdoors!
We’re cooking up the second edition of PLAY, a queer food + culture cookbook-magazine. This time we’re focused on ‘The Outside’
We’re looking for submissions that explore queerness and being outside in all forms: embodied experiences in the natural world, moments when you’ve chosen to live outside the box, pushing outside your own boundaries, what it means to be queer during climate catastrophe, and everything in between. We welcome pitches for essays, reported features, poetry, short fiction, visual art, and recipes—anything that explores the intersection of queerness, food, and the outdoors.
We believe creativity deserves compensation. With support from the Brooklyn Arts Council, all contributors whose work is accepted will be paid. Submit your pitches via the form! Submission deadline is October 31st at 8 pm EST.
We can’t wait to see how you PLAY outside!
CONFIDENTIAL NOTE: Reports indicate that PLAY pays $300 to $500 per article. It is recommended that you discuss the rate(s) with the editor upon the acceptance of your pitch.
