Tab + Music PDF + Mp3 for Sextuplet video + UPDATE

Hi everyone! I just wrapped up with a new video have some related stuff here for you to play with, including the tabs and music for the piece I wrote as well as the mp3.  Here's the video: https://youtu.be/3CjeZDUQUwM

I want to take some time here to update you all on how things are looking for the future. This entire year has been wildly busy for me. My time has been divided and I don’t like it, so I decided to make some drastic changes in my life in order to hopefully get more content made and set up the next few years of Signals operation. I’ll just briefly outline some important things below.

First things first- I sincerely apologize, but the Pimp My Riff series is on indefinite hiatus. I could not for the life of me make it work in a way that was up to my standards for the channel, and was sinking an incredible amount of time in to it. I want you all to know that I listened to every track sent my way, and I swear to you that I didn’t hear a single thing that couldn’t work as part of a published track. For most of you, the big hurdle you’ll have to overcome is getting yourselves recorded/produced well. Then the next task is to learn to finish a composition. For me, the problem was turning everything into an educational video and not just a video on production. I also got caught up in the remixing/ideas phases without a way to turn it into a lesson so I turned my focus to other videos.

I will be doing more videos on full song writing, melodies, and song structure going forward, since a lot of the groundwork for that stuff has been already laid on my channel, so I hope those videos will assist you. But in lieu of the Pimp My Riff series, I’ll be doing a semi-regular “Perfect Progression” video like the Bruno Mars one I posted recently. I’ve discovered quite a few “perfect progressions” in my journey thus far and think there’s a lot to learn by analyzing them, and it seems that people liked that presentation so I intend to do more. This is something I know I can actually do, unlike the Pimp My Riff idea which I pitched without having any experience in doing . It was not a wise idea, and I chalk it up as a failure.

But wait there’s more fail! My livestreaming setup has been a giant hassle and I haven’t found a way to fit it into my life or content (yet). I haven’t given up on it, but with my current studio set up, it’s just not up to par with my standards, and also takes a considerable amount of time to properly configure each time since I don’t have a dedicated set up. So I consider this another failure.

Failure is a necessary thing though. It (hopefully) makes you evaluate WHY you failed, and from these failures I’ve learned a few things. Mainly, don’t promise things if you’re not sure if you can deliver. In this case, I had ZERO experience making a series like the one I described, and also zero experience in live streaming. It’s akin to saying “I’ll play piano for the band next week” when you actually have never played the piano. Not quite sure in retrospect where I had the confidence that either of those projects would succeed, but it was a good lesson to re-learn.

These failures made me reevaluate my channel, Patreon, carreer and future going forward. Less than 2 years ago, I was working full time as a production manager for a gas detection company. When I quit my job, I started my youtube channel as a way to promote my local business of teaching and recording. Well, it worked, and now I’ve found myself in a spot where I’m very busy with local work in addition to really wanting and needing to provide content for every one of you here who has supported me, plus keeping the YouTube algorithm happy. I also have to maintain a social life and a few ounces of sanity.

But I haven’t been good at balancing all of that as of late. It’s a clear example of putting too much on your plate. So after much evaluation, I’ve made some serious decisions about the future and am taking steps to realize them. One is eliminating my private teaching and recording schedule so I can focus my time on YouTube and Patreon content. This begins in May, and should result in a faster upload schedule.

In addition, I’m going to be producing some teaching resources (a modal chart/poster and a written course/courses) which will require all of my attention and efforts over the next year.  The idea is to generate some independent revenue that enables my creative endeavors going forward.

I don’t want to have to rely on your generosity and you currently are my ONLY sponsors! I have been contacted a hundred times over for deals and commercials and plugs, but I’ve turned them down because I don’t want to just be a sales person who hawks products they don’t believe in. I also don’t want to diminish a video’s content by slapping ads in the middle of them. Creating and selling my own “merch” would really enable creative freedom like I’ve never experienced it.

Most importantly, I want to relocate and build a home studio. Right now, my work is split between the studio and my home where I edit. It’s hard to overstate how much more work I could get done if I didn’t have to drive back and forth every time I wanted to re-shoot a scene or remix some audio. A home studio would mean that my life + my art + my work are all together in the same place, so I’m going to try to make that a reality.

You’ve all been so incredibly helpful for me getting this far, I don’t want to take an extra dime from you. So when the products are out, I’ll have a coupon code so you can get them for just the cost of shipping and handling. But I am hoping this can be a good source of revenue for my future endeavors, so you should expect them to show up on my channel over the next month.

You should see a bit more of me these next few months, but I’m a firm believer of “show it, don’t say it”, so I’m going to shut up now. If I owe you an email, you will hear from me soon- Thanks so much for your help, and I hope you enjoy this latest video!

=)

Comments

Jake, just wanted to say you're incredible! I'll definitely be preordering your merch the moment it's ready.

Also I noticed that I wasn't included in the list of supporters in your latest videos even though I've been supporting at the $25 level for 2 months now. Is it because you create the videos in advance? Let me know, thanks
