WARNING: I SING IN THIS VIDEO
Hello friends, in this lesson I sketch out a very simple method for writing melodies on top of chords. Not everyone is interested in adding bass lines, drum parts, and leads, and this lesson is a brief explanation of how to start writing when all you have is your voice and a guitar.
I’d advise that you combine this lesson with the previous patreon-only videos about song structure. Those lessons can all be applied easily in tandem with this lesson.
The only pre-requisite you need for this video is an understanding of the major scale, how to figure out the chords of a major scale, and a bit of knowledge about your fretboard. Most of that info is covered in an older video of mine:
Thanks to Patreon member Jon Guthrie for suggesting this video! If you would like a follow up to this or have any questions, definitely post your comments here. The next patreon video will be on developing a practice schedule, another member-requested topic.
My video on riffing with Dorian is almost done and should post on Saturday; if I’m lucky it will be earlier, so stay tuned!
