1 Hour Tutorial - Producing Rock

Hey everyone! Hope you're all well. I wanted to livestream this process but I've been inundated with a multitude of miniature crises this week, one of which was a monitor issue that prevented me from livestreaming. I recorded it instead, which did provide me the opportunity to teach what I was doing without too many distractions.

I know this sort of video isn’t for ALL of you, but if you do decide to watch the whole thing, please let me know what you think! I’m interested in feedback, if things were too fast/slow, if I should go more into detail, less, etc. It’s not stuff I’m comfortable teaching so any criticism is welcome.

All this audio was made to assist my next YouTube video, which is nearing completion. I think it's a really great lesson - it will be about modal mixture and lead/melody writing strategies, and will include a sharp looking PDF that I will post here.

As a side note, I'm way behind on getting back to you all on messages and I expect the chaos to continue for a few more days. To put a long story short, wind damage wreaked havoc on the trees in my yard - one fell and totalled my car which has been declared a total loss by the insurance company, so I've been scrambling to get my transportation issue figured out while also cleaning up the mess outside, being extra careful with my fingers around the chainsaw.

So if I owe you a reply, you can expect one shortly - I'll make sure to get to everyone before my next video posts :)

Thanks and take care!

Sorry I'm late to the game but recent foot surgery has given me some downtime to catch up. Nice video ... some new tips and some affirmation of existing practices. I'm an Izotope user myself and I have a workflow question. While I completely understand running thru some presets, you didn't mention using the 'mastering assistant' which 'automatically' comes up with a recommendation for you to use as a starting point to tweak. Have you used that path and just weren't satisfied with it? I'm currently on Ozone 9 and Izotope claims to continually be refining the machine learning/algorithms that they use. To be fair, I haven't tried scrolling thru the presets ... just a different workflow choice for me (so far). Anyway, just curious. Take care ... stay safe.

I tell you man 2020 is a year to forget or maybe just wake up from it ;) Hope your surroundings and car get cleared up soon. I am still to watch the video :D
