Hey everyone! In this lesson, we explore 4 extremely common melodic structures:
SRDC
Call + Response
ABAC
3 Strikes Rule
We also take a look at many many different popular melodies and how they fit the mold for these structures.
Near the end of the video, I put the concepts to use to try making a melody+chord progression from stratch.
Two comments- If you're wondering how I came to the answer of D Major for picking a key, it's because my ear was telling me that D was clearly the tonal center of the melody (even though there was no D present, the F# and A was enough to make me want to hear D on the bass).
Also, I accidentally refer to the Departure as the Conclusion at one point.
Hope you all enjoy this one- next one will be more solid theory from harmonic/chord perspective as we try to write melodies when starting from chords alone.
My augmented chord video should be out in a few days- the extra elements and compositions are mostly done and the big edit is now due. I'm really looking forward to this one- I'm not joking when I say it's taken 20 years to produce, considering all the stuff I mention took me that long to finally realize :)
Take care and stay safe!
