Writing Melodies Part 3 + Live Lesson Update!

This video goes WAY past just melodies... Ooops! Here's whats inside:

-2 basic melodic concepts

-Writing a 16-bar chord progression

-Recording/Producing a Rhythm Track

-Writing a Bass Line

-Constructing A Melody (finally!)

-Rearranging a track to MIDI

This is the last of the 3 part series I planned. I did get kind of carried away throughout this process, and spent far more time working on MUSIC than just melody, so if you make it through the whole video you'll see that plans changed and things evolved past my initial goals of the video.

The real meat and potatoes of the melodic concepts was taught in lessons 1 + 2, this is much more of a demonstration of how these concepts fit into the bigger picture, as well as insights into recording/writing/producing chords + melodies. Essentially this is a walk-along through composing, with a huge focus on how the melody gets written.

Now, for some updates!

This Monday at 8PM CST I'll be doing a Live Q+A + Lesson stream for Patreon members only. I'll post the link to the stream here on Patreon about an hour before. If you ask your questions in the comments below here, I'll be able to prepare an answer for you on Monday. If not, just join everyone else on the stream Monday night and ask away then! I'll be armed with my DAW, guitar, and MIDI keyboard so live-composing is certainly an option.

If you can't make this Monday night at 8PM, I'll be doing another live lesson NEXT Monday August 17th at 2PM CST. I know that some of you are overseas and this time might be better.

Also my augmented video is in the very final phases and will post either this Sunday or Monday. I'm very excited to have this one complete, as it is a "core concept" that I feel will help a lot of folks out. It will have a fairly silly intro which is always good in my opinion :)

See you all soon!

Writing Melodies Part 3 + Live Lesson Update!

Comments

I almost always write my lyrics first, they come from whatever I am thinking about or feeling. At first I only have a vague idea of the chords and counter melodies. If I'm fortunate it will evolve and the music will be written in my head by the time I have time to put it in a DAW. I would love more guidance on how to write with the melody first.

A part ii II would be great targeting on a vocal melody. I have two songs self composed and recorded, one Major and one Phrygian. I want to put melody to the lyrics and appreciate your approach to music. Thanks for everything so far.

Joel
