One follow up question: Is there such a thing as the ascending bass line? Are they mirror images or do they behave differently?

As a modular synth musician I felt seen. One remark in response; how generative a certain patch gets depends on how you patch it up. I often don't patch generative at all, and use keyboard or midi input. It's not all non-human music ;-) They are "just" instruments.
One of the attractions is that one can be REALLY specific about the sonics of your. signals, often at levels unattainable by even trained classical musicians. But certainly, a 'systematic' mind (at least at first) helps to get the deeper stuff out of it. That's why I like your videos, I try a lot of ideas from them in patches.
One thing I can recommend everyone to watch on Improvisation is this series made by Channel 4 in the UK in coordination by Derek Bailey. It's 4 hours of musical bliss! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=edy2QlP_jaU

Thank you SOO much for the descending bass line techniques! Lots to try out!
