Post Your Questions HERE for Tomorrow's Live Lesson

Tomorrow (Monday May 23) at 8PM CST, I'll be answering your musical questions live!

If you have a question that requires me to look/listen at a file, send it to signalsmusicjake@gmail.com but also post a question here so I can read along with it during the stream. If you send me just an email I may forget to answer the question as I go live so definitely double up by posting it here as well.

One hour before the stream begins, I'll post a link for everyone here. The video will be available after it goes live for future replays.

Jake, I have an answer to my own question last week: When you play Dorian or Lydian mode, you can play the major pentatonic (from the modal scale) to get a different sound. This gives you three scale options to play over Dorian and Lydian. G Dorian: G Dorian scale (F major parent scale), G minor pentonic, or F major pentatonic (creating the following scale degrees: 1 2 4 5 b7) G Lydian: G Lydian scale (D major parent scale), G major pentonic, or D major pentonic scale, creaing the following scale degrees: 2 3 5 6 7 (no root)

Hi Jake, We came up with this chord progression and I'm trying to figure out the theory for it. The root chords are F, Ab, Bb, F. That's three major chords in a row, so I haven't been able to say what key or mode it is exactly. F is definitely the tonic. On the second chord I'm suspicious if it's really a Cm add 6 instead of Ab, but the emphasis is clearly on Ab. I want to call it Ab Maj 7 but then what's the mode or scale of the song? Anyway, I was wondering if this is a I - Vm - IV - I progression in F Major but with a borrowed chord of the minor 5th, or if there's some other way to express the fact the 5th is centered around Ab. Thanks as always!
