I don't think it's come up at any point in the comic, but Cassandra's husband isn't actually Helen's father... he's just a wealthy older guy that Cassandra married later on in life. He's also Russian, although that's really just because he's very loosely based on the husband from the Amy's Baking Company episode of Kitchen Nightmares.

Thanks! I was a bit worried it wouldn't be obvious enough so I considered putting in some "Da"s and "Nyet"s into his speech but now I'm pretty glad I didn't
