Xiao Yi woke up abruptly, drenched in cold sweat from a nightmare where she was devoured by a small white dragon. Shaken, she quickly left her room and saw Shao Cheng standing nearby.
"Master!" she called out.
Shao Cheng looked at her and asked, "You're awake? Is everything alright?"
Xiao Yi nodded, "I'm fine now. Thank you for your concern, Master."
Shao Cheng nodded in return, "It's good that you're okay. And don't be upset with your senior brother; he's always like that. Even if I fall behind in my cultivation, he'll scold me too."
Though Xiao Yi was frightened by the small white dragon, she didn't hold any grudge against Ji Yan, understanding that he only meant well.
"Where is Senior Brother?" she asked.
"He's in the Sword Cave," Shao Cheng replied. "But don't disturb him. He's trying to resolve the issues there."
Recalling the terrifying aura of the small white dragon and its pure sword intent, Xiao Yi shuddered again. She couldn't muster the courage to approach Ji Yan now.
"Why don't you rest for a few days? It'll take some time for your senior brother to repair the Sword Cave," Shao Cheng suggested.
"Yes, Master," Xiao Yi replied.
Curious, she then asked, "What about Second Senior Brother?"
Shao Cheng's tone turned exasperated. "That lazy rascal is lying under a tree. He calls it 'corpse-laying.' Honestly, as your Master, I've suffered. I have two disciples: one is diligent and fearless, and the other is lazy and unmotivated. If only they could balance each other out."
Xiao Yi found it amusing to hear her Master complain about her senior brothers. Seeing her smile, Shao Cheng advised, "Just follow your senior brother's example. Whatever you do, don't learn from your second senior brother. My heart couldn't take it."
With one disciple like Lü Shaoqing, Shao Cheng already felt too ashamed to face the ancestors of Tianyu Peak. He often became the target of criticism during meetings with the sect leader. If he had another one like Lü Shaoqing, he might as well end it all.
Finding the situation even more amusing, Xiao Yi playfully stuck out her tongue and said, "Master, I'll go see what Second Senior Brother is up to. I'll make sure he trains."
Shao Cheng chuckled. "Make sure he trains? You're dreaming. I'll be thankful if he doesn't lead you astray. Go on, then."
Xiao Yi went to the tree and found the hammock swaying gently. She called out, "Second Senior Brother."
Lü Shaoqing's voice came from the hammock. "All better now?"
Xiao Yi approached him with a bright smile. "Yes, I'm fine now."
Lü Shaoqing gave her a wary look. "Why are you smiling so mischievously? What are you planning? Let me tell you, your second senior brother is pure and innocent. Don't even think about trying anything."
Xiao Yi was taken aback and rolled her eyes. "Second Senior Brother, with an attitude like that, you're bound to get beaten up."
Lü Shaoqing's eyes lit up. "Who's going to beat me up?"
Xiao Yi was puzzled. Was he a masochist or just itching for a fight?
"Do you want to spar with someone, Second Senior Brother?" she asked.
"Sparring?" Lü Shaoqing scoffed. "Am I an idiot? Who wants to spar? Can you eat a sparring match?"
Xiao Yi took the opportunity to ask about the events of the previous night. "Second Senior Brother, were you sparring with Senior Brother last night?"
Lü Shaoqing replied, "Sparring, my foot! Your Senior Brother was losing his mind, and I wasn't about to humor him."
Xiao Yi was disappointed she couldn't get a straight answer, still convinced that Lü Shaoqing must be strong if he could spar with Ji Yan, whose sword intent was terrifying. Even if he wasn't as strong as Ji Yan, he couldn't be far behind.
She began to shake Lü Shaoqing's hammock. "Second Senior Brother, just be honest with me. We're all family now. Don't keep secrets from me. Tell me, were you and Senior Brother sparring last night?"
Lü Shaoqing sighed, "No, I was beating him up."
Xiao Yi pouted, "I don't believe you."
She was certain that her highly skilled senior brother couldn't be defeated by Lü Shaoqing, no matter how strong he was.
"If you don't have anything to do, just go play. I'm taking a nap," Lü Shaoqing said, brushing her off.
Xiao Yi's pout deepened. "Second Senior Brother, you're bullying me."
Seeing her on the verge of tears, Lü Shaoqing was startled. "Who's bullying you? Don't say such things, or I'll have to spank you."
"You are! You're bullying me," Xiao Yi insisted. "I'm going to tell Master."
Lü Shaoqing shifted to a more comfortable position on the hammock. "Go ahead. I'm not afraid. Besides, where's your evidence?"
Above them, the little red bird started chirping noisily. Lü Shaoqing frowned and yelled at the bird, "Stupid bird, who made you a witness? If you keep chirping, I'll pluck all your feathers!"
Xiao Yi burst out laughing. "Second Senior Brother, see? The little red bird could be my witness. It can testify for me."
"Lil' Red?" Lü Shaoqing was stunned for a moment before bursting into laughter. "Lil' Red, huh? I like it!"
The little red bird on the tree froze, then fell stiffly to the ground with a thud, its body completely rigid.
Xiao Yi rushed over, worried. "Is Lil' Red okay?"
The bird suddenly sprang up with a flip, flapping its wings frantically. It flew to the hammock and pointed one wing at Xiao Yi, chirping furiously, as if protesting her irresponsible naming. Just because it was red, did she have to call it Lil' Red? What if its feathers were black—would she call it Lil' Black? Couldn't she have come up with a nicer name?
Seeing how spirited the bird was, Xiao Yi's large eyes sparkled. "Second Senior Brother, is Lil' Red your pet? What's it saying?"
Lü Shaoqing replied, "It says it loves the name and thanks you for it."
Xiao Yi beamed, her eyes narrowing into joyful slits. "You're welcome!"
She reached out to pet Lil' Red, but the bird pecked her hand.
"Ouch!" Xiao Yi cried.
Lü Shaoqing smacked the bird away. "Be nice to my junior sister, or no more food for you."
The bird, now looking pitiful, made Xiao Yi's heart soften even more. She said, "It's okay, it's okay."
"Second Senior Brother, does Lil' Red like spirit beans? I can take it to get some."
At the mention of food, Lil' Red immediately fluttered onto Xiao Yi's shoulder.
