2023-01-26 00:05:12 +0000 UTCYes, for many offices or hotel rooms this is the only option. I use a Hario glass server at home in the microwave. I don't have a kettle.

2020-07-07 14:49:58 +0000 UTCmicrowaving water to boil it?
Paul
2020-07-06 22:19:56 +0000 UTCIf this is microwave friendly, it makes sense in an office setting where the only access to hot water is with the microwave. I checked the website and it is not microwave safe.

2020-06-11 13:26:49 +0000 UTCthis would tide me over til I can afford an electric pouring kettle! managed to get some decent brews with a standard kettle so it'd be interesting to see the difference!

2020-06-09 12:15:36 +0000 UTCthis is a very cool product! pouring a pourover with a kettle that costs 10 bucks? it's a cool product if it pours well. I hope it comes with a plastic lid.

2020-06-09 06:01:46 +0000 UTCI actually started brewing with a milk frothing pitcher alongside my regular kettle before I got my electric stagg. In fact I still use it in the days where I'm in a rush and want the faster boil times with the standard high watt electric kettle. I find the control is pretty great with some practice, the only concern is heat loss so I typically aggressively preheat and use the first pour to rinse the filter paper. I will fill the survey but pass on the giveaway (my frothing pitcher likely will perform similarly to this, and these are available in Canada for a reasonable $16 CAD at the moment!)

2020-06-09 03:48:46 +0000 UTCI think this is a great kettle for someone starting out , as I’ve discovered with a heavy kettle the pour control is quite difficult for smaller brews. Very interesting .

2020-06-08 21:03:27 +0000 UTCI wasn't sure whether I wanted to enter into this giveaway for a while, then it occurred to me that this "kettle" would be pretty good for travel, which is a usecase I've been wanting to cover for a bit. For the moment I'm just using an aeropress for travel, but I'd love to portable-ize enough of my setup to take pourover on the go.

2020-06-08 19:09:26 +0000 UTCThe kettle seems like a good solution if storage is an issue and you already have a cheap electric kettle. With that said I've always suggested to others to buy used goose neck kettles on amazon or other used shops. I've found multiple temp controlled Bonavita kettles for $50. But if that fails, this paired with a cheap $20 traditional kettle could be a great combo for the aspiring coffee nerd.

2020-06-08 15:16:12 +0000 UTCEveryone has a preference. If you like the ritual of pourover then I do get that, that would be a good replacement. Myself I just find it unappealing and weird. The aesthetic is as important to me as the performance. Myself I am considering an Aeropress to avoid the liquid ash drink office calls coffee. I am too tired to bring mine coffee in the thermos to the office.

2020-06-08 13:07:55 +0000 UTCI disagree . This is exactly the sort of thing I'll be looking for in a few years, once I start working full time at a hospital and want to have relatively portable pourover coffee. It's cheap, lightweight and small. I just wish it had a lid.

2020-06-08 12:46:53 +0000 UTCI agree with the capacity point to an extent. I am new to the world of pour over and have just ditched my 10 year old bean-to-cup Gaggia in favour of it. I find making a 500ml brew is fine with my standard kettle. The pour rates involved mean I’m happy with the level of control. However, when I’m making a single cup (250ml), there’s no way to control the pour for these volumes. I think this kettle may solve that problem. Think of it as a single cup kettle and it makes sense!

2020-06-08 09:41:46 +0000 UTCI don't want to be hater, but this abomination makes me angry. I am not a fan. I am looking forward to the review of this "kettle" to see what are the pros, but so far I only see the cons. Design - hideous. The way it is presented in every single photo looks ok enough until you see it from the front. Why? Why would you want to play around with the water pouring it from the kettle to this thing and then brewing coffee. I feel like there should be quite significant temperature loss. Just buy a goose-neck instead. I don't see any practical use of this thing which would be handy and not time consuming. In my opinion it is just a hideous plastic jug. If it would be glass or... i don't know.... Metal? Then you could actually find more uses for it. For instance you could have it on a heat-plate to keep the temperature or even boil water in it. What do you do with a plastic jug besides pouring water into it and out? I see its other use as a watering can for plants :D

2020-06-08 09:40:39 +0000 UTCHi James, I am brand new to the world of pour over coffee and buying from independent coffee suppliers like yourself. I just want to say thank you for the in-depth guides and knowledge sharing .

2020-06-07 23:02:25 +0000 UTCHi James, first of all thank you so much for all you patience and effort in putting the videos and all the information. I’m based in Japan, and just wanted to answer your questions to give you the information. These and all Hario products are REALLY accessible here so please don’t include me on the give away since somebody else would appreciate this more. One line up from Hario you might be interested is in the PRO series especially grinders. They improved a lot.

2020-06-07 21:23:06 +0000 UTCI will be interested in the review because I can't figure out why this thing exists. No one who is a coffee "artisan" :) will use this kettle, except possibly for dark roast. Of which, the cartesian product of "artisan" and "dark roast", is a null set. Though I am an imaginary member of that set. Anyways... Someone not an artisan, will not take the time or see the value in introducing another step and expense in the process of brewing coffee. So... don't get it. Yet.

2020-06-07 19:11:27 +0000 UTCSo I thought you weren't a huge fan of pouring kettles that don't heat due to the heat loss. I'll be interested to see what is involved in the eventual video in which this kettle will no doubt star.

2020-06-07 14:44:19 +0000 UTCYes. It’s a condition of Patreon. If it is a closed competition then it is a lottery and I get removed from the platform

2020-06-07 14:43:42 +0000 UTCInteresting, a higher capacity would be nicer, but I'm sure it would still be better than my standard cheap kettle.

2020-06-07 14:42:16 +0000 UTCI'm the same as Will. It's a cool looking jug though and I love the "memory function" 😁

2020-06-07 14:34:18 +0000 UTCThis is a unique and beautiful kettle ! I love the lab design of it. Hope I'll win !

2020-06-07 14:30:28 +0000 UTCIt's so easy to share the link, I guess James could cross check that the winner is indeed a patron, and if not pull another name from the hat.

2020-06-07 14:30:24 +0000 UTCDoes this mean we might get a pour over kettle review video in the future?
Aaron Son
2020-06-07 14:21:28 +0000 UTCHi James, are you aware that this competition can be entered by anyone with the link? I.e. it's not exclusive to patrons. Somebody I know has entered despite not being a patron of yours. Don't know where they got the link from.

2020-06-07 14:15:37 +0000 UTCI am currently using a gooseneck kettle from Hario, their #2312 and it works fine, meets my needs, and has a 750 ml capacity which is fine. One issue we should all consider is if the electric kettle does not have this capacity. Chantal, which is local to Houston came out with their kettle version with an insufficient volume. Its like they did the research but didn't ask coffee people. Anyway, that isn't what I am actually riffing about. The borosilicate Hario Coffee Server 02 has a problem shared by a LOT of carafes. When one tries to pour the stream is not efficient and precise, spreads out . Have noticed the same with some Oxo measuring cups. Why, with all the technology and knowledge these companies have, wouldn't they make a more precise and easy pour design to their spout areas? So I thought this might be a fun thing to look at...how precisely different carafes, measuring cups etc., designed for coffee use, pour lol. Wish I could post a photo or video.

2020-06-07 14:07:07 +0000 UTCI actually really like the concept of this. Being Polycarbonate it shouldn’t steal much heat from the water, like the PC V60. Another great idea from Hario

2020-06-07 13:48:12 +0000 UTCWhat a unique little bit of kit! A far cry from the Fellow or Brewista I am used to seeing over here in Australia.

2020-06-07 13:42:30 +0000 UTCDon't worry about my entry / entries. Just participating for the info being asked. This isn't something I would use at the moment. Best off going to someone else who could make use of it. 👍
