I think the entire bit about your cousin putting you down because you got into the club but he didn’t, was very interesting. I also thought it was cool that you were able to analyze the situation and see what was actually happening. It just kind of reminds us that we can’t control the actions of others, and that we are only responsible for our own. Something that I see a lot of people who have true mental maturity doing, is that when they see someone acting towards them in a way they don’t appreciate, they don’t take it personally. Instead they choose to learn from the experience so that in the future when they are about to subconsciously do it to someone else, they can recognize it and stop themselves. Not only that, but often they choose to treat the person with graciousness, because if the root of the problem is insecurity, making them feel badly won’t improve anything. Yeah... I don’t know, the realization that how people treat you isn’t determined by your own actions 90% of the time... but rather their own emotions has been a really powerful realization in my own life. Not that it gives license to reject responsibility for how our actions affect others... but just that we can be patient with people.
