I Am Not Dead

Even if I act that way or spend way too much time thinking I were.

I want this Patreon to be better for you all, my great Patrons. I am stunned by the patience you all have with me. I thank you all for that. I don't deserve it in the slightest.

My head has ideas tumbling through it all the time for improving my Patreon. My troubles are an inability to pick something and commit to doing it. Fear of screwing up more than I already do.

Somewhere along the line, I need to grow up and do the good things that need doing.

I am hoping help from you folks will be the shove I need to make improvements here. There are tools for doing polls here and I can just plain ask you what you think and want. I am going to stop over-thinking things and just commit. Accept that I may make more of a jackass out of myself.

So, let's start off with the easiest thing, even if it may bring the sloppiest results:

What Things Would You Like To See Me Do?

I'd like to do more for my Patron Tiers. I've seen other people doing a monthly sketch commission for a limited, higher-level tier. A good idea, maybe? I can probably handle a four or five slot thing.

Discord:  Lots of folks seem to have Discord servers for their Patreons. Sections for general chatting and making suggestions and previews of things. Is there any interest in that kind of thing? Considering my monthly Reward Art Packs have nearly everything I produce in a month, there would be limited previewing happening. The ability to more readily hear and take suggestions could be good.

I think a lot about polling you all about what I should do, but there is that problem of where to start. Ideas start with "Which Sketch Should I Make A Finished Piece?" We have "More Girls or More Boys?" "Maws, Paws or something else?" That kind of thing.

Streaming: I do my regular streams Wednesdays and Saturdays. I generally just do... whatever during them.  No real structure. I have thoughts of making the Wednesday Stream a "Work" stream, where I do commission and Patreon stuff.  Saturday would be the "Fun" stream, where I do whatever and theme off of what the audience wants to see.

Tags. Archives. Contests. Stuff!

Let me stop here. I'd like to get your help and your thoughts about what direction I should go to make this thing you're contributing to better and worth your time. This joint needs spiffing up.

Thanks for your time and patience. I hope to hear from you.

I joined mostly to just support a fantastic artist I admire and many of your thoughts for higher tier rewards are good. Though if you do decide to do a sketch commission tier, you may want to make it a resetting tier of individuals so that it can potentially be enjoyed by others in the months to come. My two cents on that particular reward! Polls are a great way to see fan input as well. I would also love the idea for general chatting and the like for a discord reward. Though I would recommend only doing things that you would find enjoyable for yourself as well. This medium is made to support you in the first place and will continue to follow regardless!

Polls are indeed a quick way to add a little interactivity. The key is to keep them simple. The ones you named are an excellent start. Also a fun idea is voting in a poll what the next part in a sequence of pictures will be. A lot of people would love to get comissions from you, so in order to not get swamped with a huge backlog, delays between responses/approval, etc, I'd only accept comissions in stream. That way you know the comissioner is there and they can give input if needed while you are drawing. A lot of artists use a spinning wheel to decide who gets the comission when demand is up. I think Picarto also has a randomizer function though I am not sure. Keeping fun and work streams seperate is a good idea.

I've been a fan of yours since the Macrophile.com days, back when I was an idiot teenager who, in order to buy your Art CDs - purchased US currency and sent it in an envelope because I didn't know how 'Money-Orders' worked... I'm happy that Patreon gives me an easy (digital) way to support your art and I chose the $20 tier because I believe its worth it, not because of any rewards. So while I certainly wouldn't be opposed to Monthly Commissions, I don't see them as necessary to keep donating. Polls do sound like a good idea but a Discord not so much, if you're having trouble committing to a direction to take this Patreon, adding another thing to look after won't help, even if you get someone else moderate it. Regardless, whatever you decide on, I'm here for the long run :-)

I don't want to sounds like a broken record with what has been said above. Though a bonus for top supporters would be very interesting to see.

Lots of good ideas from folks already :3 I'd also be up for a monthly commission pool as well, my favorite artist commission to this day is still the lovely sketch I managed to get done by you at AC'98, my first convention <3

I like seeing sequences or short comic sketches. Especially of two or more characters together.

I think sketch tiers and polls are going to be very popular! I'm not sure I would have the time to keep up with streams or discord channels. But the idea of having some interactivity after being an observer and a fan for so many years would be very exciting I think. :)

As everyone has said, polls are a great idea to involve patrons while still having some control. Sketches are a fun and tempting idea too! Another idea I think would be fun is a chance to have your character as an "extra" in the crowd of the next macro scene you draw. Could be a relatively low effort way to include patrons here and there ^^

Your doing great man. If you were looking for more direction polls are a great way to do it. Freckles has implented that before.

I'd love to get some new stuff from you someday ;w; I still adore the sketch you made for me years back. I'd say sketch comms would be awesome ❤

I know I'd love to get a sketch commission of Karin. <3 And a Discord channel might be fun, and help make it easier to discuss ideas for things.

Others have already voiced good suggestions and options, so I'll let them be the voice of reason. I'll just say that I support you because I've been a fan for over 20 years, and I just want to show appreciation and support. never was any good at any kind of classcal art (drawing, sculpture, etc), and I don't have time to practice, so I live vicariously through your art. So thanks. :)

I'm with Neopuc here. Would be all over a commission tier if it was put in. But agree on the poll thing too.

I would be all over a sketch commission tier if you made one and I was lucky enough to get it. Polls are fun too. You might want to start of with just a "what to finish" poll first. Just see how well you can handle doing things based on the decisions of others first rather than your own. If you feel up to it you could add more polls later. I've found discord servers tend to live or die based on the amount of participation of the creator. There are exceptions, but how well it does is most likely going to depend on how much time you have to put into it. So keep that in mind. But, I'm such a quite person I can't follow a discord server anyways. :P Other people seem to enjoy them though.

Neopuc

ALL THAT BEING SAID, I'm just happy to see more art from you every month. Anything on top of that is just a bonus. Please don't stress too much about it!

Polls sound like a lovely idea. That's a good way to get input from your supporters while still guiding the choices toward stuff you're interested in drawing. I've seen some folks make a "poll idea request" post for higher tiers, give folks a few days to submit ideas (usually with limitations to keep it from being too specific), and then curate the concepts that catch your interest into a poll that all the tiers can vote on. I'd also definitely be interested in commission tiers, since my schedule rarely lets me join streams. TBH I can barely keep up with the discord servers I'm already on. I know some people enjoy engaging with their fans that way, but the maintenance and moderation they require can be overwhelming. I wouldn't recommend making one unless that's a platform you're already comfortable using regularly.

I just joined wanting to support a bud o/

Freckles

I like the suggestion polls you have as well as the discord idea, make sure to keep the latter busily running so it becomes a real little community. A weekly patron-only art stream on drawpile is something as well!
