I went to a private high school and we watched channel one everyday! One thing I will say is that while we couldn’t talk while it was on, I don’t know many people who actually watched it in the morning

Wow! I totally forgot about Channel 1! I don't remember much other than feeling how laughably awkward and dystopian it was to have ads piped into school. Advertising aimed at kids really sets me off. I mean fuck advertising in general, but ones that target young people really piss me off (note: I work in advertising).

I was sooo excited when I saw the title of this week’s show! I’m one of 90’s kids who watched Channel One every morning in middle school through high school. What I remember from all the time are 3 things #1 Anderson Cooper, Lisa Ling and all the other hosts who went on to do other things. #2 The term “Channel One Hacienda” because that’s what they called their studio, duh. And #3 The term “trickle down economics”. A big deal then, but I never quite understood what they were talking about.
What I DON’T remember however are the ads. This makes me realize how many times they used us 90’s kids as Guinea pigs… Like the time they gave out different coded gum with different formulas to all the kids in elementary school and then would come and check our teeth to see what effects the gum had. Have you ever heard about that?? Thanks for a great episode!
