I work for a market research company, and 99% of our studies are designed specifically for our client to answer their specific business questions. However, we also occasionally do large nationally representative studies on topics that are broadly interesting that we publish for free basically as advertising for our firm. This is because nearly every study we do is proprietary so we can't use them to show potential clients our capabilities. Sometimes research companies syndicate these big studies and companies pay to read these large studies. It would be reallyyyyy bad though if one of these studies seemed fishy for any reason. I'm guessing TOP just did this weird study to get visibility and most of their work is for individual clients. A lot of times these big studies are done on a yearly basis and generate top 10 lists, like "top 10 trusted brands by teens in 2022." If a brand sees that they are at the yop of the list, they will post or advertise their place on the list and therefore give the company exposure and credibility.

When you start to have lots and lots of pages that rank well for search, and you have a lot of reputable sites linking to yours, your site, your entire domain, starts to earn more “credit” or “gravitas” from search engines. So when you have a new page that goes up, you already have a leg up on the competition for ranking that page because search engines have deemed your site is safe, reputable and trustworthy - elevating your site’s overall SEO value.
