2022-02-16 20:51:19 +0000 UTCI agree, I’ve been to a Target in LA and found it to be fairly similar to Target at home. My nearest Target was 5km away and closed over Christmas last year, with my nearest one now being 25km away! Such a pain. I loved their clothing range, it was really great for picking up something nice for work without spending a fortune. Kmart Aus is sometimes just a bit too cheap/trendy and doesn’t stock more classic styles.

2022-02-16 20:48:33 +0000 UTCAnother Aussie here. To further complicate things, Kmart Australia tried to open some stores in the US as recently as 2018 under the name “Anko”. To rewind a little, Kmart Aus had developed a cult following over the last 10 years for cheap/stylish clothing, homewares and furniture; they got rid of all the “name brands” in store and started selling their own cheaper “Anko” brand, which proved to be popular and allowed them to quickly develop products that were trendy. Target Australia remained a mid-tier department store full of “name brands” but the stock was boring and the prices were much higher, driving everyone to Kmart Aus instead. Kmart started rebranding Target stores and cannibalising the Target brand due to poor sales. A few years ago, Kmart Aus decided to try and cash in on the popularity of the Anko brand by opening a store in LA and a few others across the country, and online (obviously they were unable to use the Kmart name in the US!). 2022-02-11 14:04:04 +0000 UTCHi, I’m an Australian who lives in the States and is current visiting Australia. I dispute that Target in the US is much better, the biggest difference is that it has groceries (and possibly a few other depts that smaller Target AU stores usually have), but apart from that they are very similar in quality, price and range. Target is absolutely my favorite department store in Australia and is much better than Kmart - better quality, layout and service imo. Kmart has very recently replaced almost all Target stores in Australia (despite them all still appearing on the Target AU website!) and I’m mad about it, and when I complained on my social media many other Aussies were also annoyed about it. So whether Target is better than Kmart (or better than Target US) might be a matter of personal taste. I did manage to order some of my favourite brands from Target AU online but I expect that the online store will also soon be phased out. Note if you are in Australia and search for Target in pretty much any search engine you will be directed to the Australian one (like any other internationally similar brand) and while you might be able to ship internationally from either…I haven’t tried…you’ll quickly realize what site you are on when you start entering your address. Anyway, hope that helps!
