That is how corsets began, as something that helps to keep posture straight. But as it got to france, it eventually transformed into pure fashion and ridiculously tight. And it lasted like this for over a century.

In fact when Coppelia said it is too small I believe she meant it was what is now regarded as "proper sized". because she follows up seemingly about to imply the mage is using it to look thinner.

2023-04-27 21:22:40 +0000 UTCUndergarments for comfort? You are not aware of the abomination that is the corset. Wearing proper sized corsets is very taxing and uncomfortable. It causes various issues from shortness of breathing, fainting, constipation, and eventually bone deformation. Wearing corsets too tight and remaining consious shouldn't be possible. There's a good reason why nobody wears them now.

Also thinking on it if the size was uncomfortable why was she even wearing it? aside that she could easily get other clothes. it is an undergarment. the whole point of wearing it at all is comfort.
