She will travel back in time to stop herself from poisoning the Vomulan ambassador at the first-contact moment.
Back then, she was part of a sect that opposed interspecies mixing and believed this was the best way to prevent it from happening with the Vomulans.
The Vomulans did not take the poisoning lightly.
As a result, they set out to destroy the humans.
With the complete extermination of humanity imminent, scientists built a time machine with only enough power for one journey.
Yvette is selected because the machine must hone in on the time traveler’s past DNA to take her to the right place in time, and only someone with that same DNA can make the trip.
Yvette is the only human still alive who was also close to first contact in the selected period.
The moment of return is scheduled for only two hours before the first contact moment to prevent the sect from finding out their plan would not be successful.
That is, if older Yvette succeeds…….
