Boom’s Power Rangers- I had been trying to start this series for months and I had only made it like two issues in, but this month something clicked and I was hooked. I was skeptical at first but Higgins nailed the characterization and his whole run had a great through line in Tommy. I also started Go Go Power Rangers. Mora is quickly becoming one of my favorite artists! And the book itself feels much more character driven, which is my favorite. Runaways- I finally decided to get back to read the old Runaways series from the beginning. It's so great in so many ways and very rough in others. Chase calling stuff gay hasn't aged well either. But BKV has a knack for writing great characters you fall in love with! This is my first time reading past the first trade and I love seeing what happened in the kid’s lives to lead them into the new series. Planning on continuing my Marvel Teens journey with Avengers Academy, Avengers Arena, and Avengers Undercover after I finish. As for my floppies this month: Wonder Woman- G. Willow Wilson’s run continues to be engaging and I feel like it’s building on Rucka’s rebirth run with Steve and Diana’s relationship Runaways- This book is fucking phenomenal! I’ve been a fan of the Runaways for a long time now and for the last 17 issues I’ve thought this book is the best run with these characters we’ve ever gotten. TMNT- Last month’s Christmas Carol type issue with Splinter was a great little interlude after everything that’s happened recently. This book has consistently been one of my favorites for YEARS! 89 issues in and it’s still engaging and interesting and telling a long dynamic story. If you like the Turtles at all, you should at least try this book. Strangers in Paradise- Terry Moore is killing it with tying several of his worlds together. Nothing has felt forced or trite. I only wish we got more slice of life moments. Exiles- Saladin Ahmed is killing it on this great character driven team book!

Die #1 & #2 - What a fantastic way to start off a new series from such an incredibly talented creative team. I've really enjoyed Han's art for years and enjoyed her covers on Gillen's JiM run. This Jumanji approach to D&D is such a great idea for a book and really enjoyed these first two issues. The characters have enough depth and backstory to hook you emotionally from the getgo. The art of course is gorgeous so 10/10 all around from me. Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man #1 & #2 - I'm a huge fan of Tom Taylor and have enjoyed every series he's worked on so I was really looking forward to this book and it didn't disappoint. Plenty of people like/love Dan Slott's run on ASM (and Superior) but I don't think anyone would argue that it was a street level, down to earth run. After years of brain swapping and Spider-versing, it's nice to see a more down to Earth, back to basics book with Spider-Man that showcases why he's such a good street-level hero. Great start to the series as I really enjoyed the first two issues and I look forward to more. Superman #7 - It's great to finally get some light shed on what happened after Jon and Lois left but I don't think it really nailed the landing. I think it's partly because I really didn't enjoy any of the Rogol Zaar story and I think it took away from setting up Clark and then Lois when she comes back, missing Jon that should have made this issue have huge emotional payoff. I'll keep checking it out but this has continued to be the weakest Bendis book by far, especially compared to the amazing Jinxworld books he's been putting out. Highlights from my pull list: Cover (Bendis/Mack) - Holy crap, I didn't know Bendis still had a book like this in him. While I do enjoy Superman and Action Comics, I've missed the old vibe that his old books had (jinx, AKA Goldfish, Torso, etc) so it's great to get something of that ilk. I love the concept, comic artists used as CIA informants because their normal travel patterns for attending conventions all over the world is a perfect cover (makes sense right?) for them. And of course the art is absolutely amazing. David Mack isn't doing 1 art style, he isn't doing 2 art styles, he's doing 3 art styles depending on the context. It's quickly risen to one of my favorite current series.
