뱃속에 삼켜진 먹이는 소화액에 의해 걸죽하게 녹아내리고, 먹이 안에 산란된 알이 소화액에 반응하여 부화, 푸딩처럼 변한 먹이를 섭취하며 성장했다. 기생말벌의 애벌레는 뱃속의 소화액에 내성이 있어 안전하게 녹아내린 먹이를 섭취 가능했고, 그 열량으로 성장하여 먹이를 삼킨 포식자의 피부마저 갉아먹고 몸 밖으로 나온다.
