I don't generally watch the how-to part of most reviews, unless it's a game I've never heard of and am for some reason watching the review. Mostly I just need to see that part once, from someone. Although if it's particularly well done, it can be interesting. Like SUSD does a great job of hitting the interesting bits about a game without getting bogged down into rules details, well most of the time. So there's actually some editorial just in what they choose to highlight. But mostly I'm just looking for an opinion and some reasons to back it up and I can decide how much those reasons matter to me. I think publishers when they give out these previews are mostly looking for a combination of big audience and an easy grade. As a watcher I'm happy to see some straight talk but I think you need to find your own niche, your own priorities -- if it doesn't involve being an easy thumbs up for every campaign, it's a harder road but I for one appreciate it. It's not impossible, SUSD got big despite being pretty hard to please. But now even they are having to choose their battles, serving up "previews" that are criticism-free.

I'm tending to look at games with a maximum cost of around $100AUD (say $60USD + shipping), give or take. I'm setting this level to limit my options but also my out of pocket expenses. I'm finding it easy to over pay for a game that doesn't really deliver on it's promises.
