The Portillo Children’s Book That Never Was

Way, way back in 2012, I was looking for a creative outlet that was all mine; something I could pour myself into with full creative freedom. That desire led me to my own YouTube channel, and that led to Kinda Funny. Now, you’re here.
But before I went down the path of Oreos and hypothetical questions on podcasts, I got into the idea of writing a children’s book. I bought a bunch of ‘em, made notes, and plotted a whole series based around Portillo.
Then, I wrote one.
Then, I did nothing with it.
Like, I didn’t send it to anyone or any agent; I just wrote it and sat on it for a decade with the occasional mention of it on a podcast or to a friend. I just wasn’t passionate enough about it to figure out how to get it published.
Well, with everyone sharing their amazing memories of Porty, I felt it was time to share “Portillo the Wiener Dog Thinks He’s a Manatee.”
Yes, it’s a long title. It was on purpose. I have a list of “Portillo the Wiener Dog Thinks…” book ideas. With all of them, I wanted to tackle something a bit bigger than the basics and have Porty and Lil’ Greg make it digestible to a kid.
Like I said, next to no one has ever read “Portillo the Wiener Dog Thinks He’s a Manatee,” so I don’t know if I succeeded, but I do know that there’s so much love for Porty right now that I thought it was time to share. Plus, y’all loved making Porty fan art, and I think there’s some sweet inspiration in here if you’re so inclined.
