RIP Twitter? - Gregway 11.17.22

Is it really over?

Great Gregway. I completely understand the feeling of missing what it was. I saw Blessing's tweet as well and it's obvious how important Twitter was for his career (not to mention others like Andy, Mike, Gary, etc.). However, I'm concerned about the future. The reality is that the Jan. 6 riot was (and still is) encouraged by many republicans on Twitter. As another example, the anti-sematic comments by Kanye were trending along with #TheJews, which encouraged even more public anti-sematism. When the last presidential election was in full swing, Kinda Funny made the statement that if you support Trump, they don't want you here. This was divisive to a lot of Kinda Funny fans but I applauded the guys for putting their foot down and at least trying to use their influence as a force of good. So I guess my question here is.....will any of them make a similar stand against Twitter? Trump and Kanye are reinstated, both with a huge twitter following. To give a voice and a platform to people like this is frightening to me in this day and age. I for one am hoping that it will disband. TruthSocial exists, and if they want to spew their hate and lies there, they have the freedom to do so. But just like I would be upset to hear that Kinda Funny has TruthSocial accounts, I think I would also be upset if they didn't make some kind of public stand or statement against Twitter as it currently exists. I love these guys so much, and they've provided me with so much joy it's difficult to quantify. I'm just hoping against hope that they'll continue to fight the good fight on this issue as well. Sorry for the rant.

If twitter goes down lets just create a KF group chat.

For me, Twitter has/is the sole avenue/line to the friends I've made. I've reached out to a few and offered my contact info if they ever want to stay in touch, but if Twitter goes down, I lose the opportunity to connect with them. I found Kinda Funny in February 2016 during a sad time and over that year I made great friends from the community, culminating in finally meeting in person at KFL3, and it was only possible via Twitter. Once that goes, I'm left with conventions and Kinda Funny Live events to see them again, but the ability to coordinate? Make Plans? Catch-up? Hangout? To me, Twitter has been an overall net negative for so much damage it's done to society in general, but I cannot overstate the fundamental positive effect it's had for me, because without it, I wouldn't have friends at all. So much akin to the immediacy you touch on Greg with interacting with the audience, or establishing relationships with celebrities and major industry figures, for me what I lament potentially losing is the direct line to easily stay in touch with many I care about.

I feel funny; I left Facebook because of the drama, the fights with people that we're not even friends of mine, and barely the friends I have were even talking to. Been on Twitter for a short time, and I guess I am old. I don't know how to interact because I barely speak to no one on Twitter, so if it dies today, I won't feel a thing. It does suck to hear in the news people are losing their jobs cause a dumb ass purchased the company and didn't know how to handle it. The last big thing I heard was that the accessibility team got to let go of him. That was the worst thing you could do to a company. Now with that being said, my company just let go of 286 employees two months ago. I feel it's happening everywhere.
