Ep 107 - Philosopher Kings of Comedy w/ Jakie Flores and Tana Ganeva

Jake "Silly Socrates" Flores is back on the show to talk about his new podcast Why You Mad? and theories of comedy and class war.

But before that, we talk about something that's no laughing matter: the NYPD's permissive culture towards rapists and other abusers on the force, unfortunately celebrated by humorous challenge coins and nicknames like the "assman". Writer for the Appeal and the Intercept Tana Ganeva joins us to discuss the failures of Cuomo and di Bunglio's even tepid reforms, speculate why it's been such a shell game, and if "defund" or "abolish" police and prisons are the right approach.

Huge fan, love you guys! Jake's response to Tanya about reluctance towards police abolition that was so spot on. Reluctance is predicated on the assumption that police prevent, let alone solve, violent crimes' (they dont). excellent answer. My question is about, im sorry idk the contributor, but he talked about how biker gangs were basically a product of media... i feel like this is an indictment with heavy implications to all of society and mass media aka propoganda... i want to learn more about this- any tips?

Adam Smith even wrote,”civil defence so far as it is instituted... is for the protection of those with property from those without”, he also wrote, “labor was the first price all things were paid...not gold, not silver”

lol, that's not why Dylan shrugged off political music. He went off in a less political direction because he felt he was treated like a mascot and forced into a corner with "protest music" and being named "the voice of a generation." That would've closed off his more experimental side and his synthesis of rock and folk. Outside maybe a hot minute in the late 70s Dylan never gave a fuck what a Republican thinks and other they might want to buy his music.

I finally had the mind to look for this show after Sam plugged it; I'm glad I found it! It's great content. Thank you for making it.
