Well this is also in part the issue around just-in-time everything Peter, farmers are expecting decreases in corn and wheat yield in the US because of this cold spring. I'd even guess that warmer crops would have had to be delayed being planted out which i'm sure is a nightmare on several levels. I find with the early season crops, it's often easier to geminate indoors and then just plant out if that helps.

Have worked in the industry though so I can also semi-confidently say there are some big warning signs as well. For a really good look and take on the food security question and then some I would suggest making contact with Prof Patel (@_RajPatel on twitter), who is a lefty but also global food systems expert- much needed episode waiting in the wings. Been trying to get someone to cover what he has to say. Almost sure he'd do an interview/episode??

All of you tend to talk for a bit (very well, I can say 😇), so it’d have to be (self) moderated in a sense, and I wouldn’t do it too soon, since I think things need to suss out a bit more with the global situation so more new things can be said relative to the extent you all separately have covered recent fluxes. Anyhow, love the new DITW series, you and Varn are great together!

For a series of reasons including climate change, fertilizer/energy reliance and uncertainty and of course supply chain issues, and persistent inflation, North America could be as food precarious if not more so. Building out more resilient systems in farming takes years to do. Many many variables there. still an absolute banger of an ep.
