Ep 197 - Trainsurrection when?

Sean's STRIKE update returns! We talk about the UC academic workers strike, Starbucks, the rail strike, Toronto teachers, and much more. Sean is optimistic we are heading towards an independent working class movement. Andy thinks we'll lose again.

In the second half we tell some spooky Halloween stories about a Thing Under the Bridge, a death rock band destroyed by lesbian cop love, and a very "shitty" Halloween cover band.

Oh Hobsbawm also has a book called The Invention of Tradition. Goes over how a lot of "classical vital traditions" reactionaries cream themselves over are actually at oldest from like the 1870s at their cores invented as a result of bourgeois society. Very good and fascinating stuff. Highly recommend. Will admit, have not finished it; it is entirely possible that after a point it gets bad but I haven't gotten that far yet so I'm gonna say what I have read was quite good.

My fake name

i just read this when I woke for the overnight shift: Kaiser Nurses are striking for 2 days on Monday, November 21st, 2022 at 7:00am until Wednesday, November 23rd, 2022 at 6:59am. Although Kaiser has made record profits through the COVID-19 pandemic, Nurses remain short staffed and under resourced. We are unable to provide the level of care that our patients deserve. Nearly 40 sessions into bargaining, Kaiser is still failing to provide safe staffing, job protections, and wage and benefit improvements. Enough is enough!

they'll attrition out in the next decade or so and we'll be left to pay into their pensions and try to hold down the work.. maybe we can start pushing things in a better direction once the comfortable have left (i hope so!)

Also, GG Allin did NOT have a small penis. It was a very NORMAL size and also probably a grower, not a shower. I will not hear this slander upon his name. His impersonator not only had an abnormally large hog (bad) but also didn't have the balls to diarrhea on the floor and throw it at the audience. Shame.

I like that you touch on developments in Canada as well. I thought your analysis of both the Freedom Convoy in Ottawa and the CUPE strike in Ontario were well informed (although we pronounce it "CUE-pee"). As a member of one of the Ontario unions involved, it was very exciting to see organized labour come together and very nearly stage a general strike. The "deal" with Doug Ford came at the eleventh hour and, while I'm disappointed the general strike didn't go ahead, this battle isn't over. Ford blinked and promised to repeal the new bill because a general strike would've been a disaster for him, and the public backed the unions. Unfortunately, his government seems to be slow-rolling the repeal of the bill and has made public statements that make me question whether they're negotiating in good faith. I hope CUPE and their labour allies are ready to intervene should things go south again. For now, I am cautiously optimistic.

Re: Sean's conversation in the shanty Every day I go to work I overhear the same thing. Boomer camera operators and assistant directors talking about the cottage, talking about their boats, talking about how these days they only have to work 4 months a year. While anyone who's entered the industry in the last 15 years is scrambling to make rent.
