WOFF Summer 2017 Poll: BAT MONTH
Added 2017-07-12 18:58:06 +0000 UTC
Na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na PLEASE VOTE.
We've decided that this September will be Bat Month on Watch Out for Fireballs! This will definitely include the 1989 Batman game for the NES, developed by SunSoft, but we want your help picking the other more modern game to cover.
Whichever Arkham game wins this poll will get a two-part episode in September. What will you choose?
- Batman: Arkham Asylum (2009) is the beginning of Rocksteady's series, and operates at a smaller scale... it's a great example of a 3D Metroidvania done right.
- Batman: Arkham City (2011) takes the Asylum formula and applies it to an open world, letting you swoop and fly around a section of Gotham as the Dark Knight.
- Batman: Arkham Origins (2013) is in someways a re-tread of City, but it's also a prequel that shows Batman's early days as a crime fighter. The game is maligned, but there are some interesting boss encounters to dive into.
You have a good deal of time to place your votes. The deadline is Friday, July 28. Use the widget below to place your vote, and make your case for your choice in the comments, on the Slack, and on social media.

Thinking back on my memories I have a preference for City (minus that final boss fight/ending), but I think Asylum is the more important and interesting title, and lends itself better to overall discussion. City had a lot more to do, but it wasn't all as tight and well crafted as I remember Asylum.

2017-07-18 18:36:07 +0000 UTCI honestly don't understand why this poll exists. Asylum is generally agreed as being the best of the three, and it's also the first. Why would you do a lesser game in the middle?

2017-07-16 18:14:55 +0000 UTCI know the poll isn't over yet, but this got me to try Asylum and man oh man can I not put this game down. VERY excited for this episode if Asylum wins.

2017-07-13 13:34:32 +0000 UTCDefinitely Asylum, I think it works better for the WOFF format. City is a bit too large, too many side-quests and parts that can be done out of order, etc...

2017-07-13 12:50:33 +0000 UTCI've been meaning to play both Asylum AND City for years. Time to play catch-up.

2017-07-13 04:08:26 +0000 UTCHoly bat, Crapman! Arkham Asylum has a special place in my heart, as it was a part of the bonding process between my little sister and I. We were estranged and I only knew about she a couple years ago. So when we met, we quickly discovered that a vast array of similarities lie between us and a common love of video games is high on the list. We almost managed to get all the Riddler tokens in the game by controller-swapping whenever the other died while dealing with all the puzzle solving and brawling for the entirety of multiple nights. Lots of really good and really meaningful memories with this one, so I'm happy it came up!

2017-07-12 22:19:34 +0000 UTCIf you only can do one, it has to be Asylum. But Origins in my opinion is criminally underrated. It does a LOT of stuff right, and hits it's narrative beats better then the rest of the series. In my opinion, it's the only game to really stick the landing at the end.

2017-07-12 22:13:52 +0000 UTCI love Asylum for the sense of archaeology it has--you just keep digging down and down into its weirdness.

2017-07-12 21:52:25 +0000 UTCArkham Asylum is the best game of the bunch, but it also has the lowest lows too. It will definitely make for the most interesting episode.

2017-07-12 20:34:13 +0000 UTCI like how tight and contained Arkham Asylum is. It's damn near a metroidvania but doesn't feel as cramped or claustrophobic as the tunnels of the rest of the genre. Without changing much mechanically it feels the same controlling Batman in the confines of the limited Arkham property of the first game and the whole open-world of Arkham City. It succeeds in both instances.
