Bonfireside Chat 134: Ashina Outskirts (Part 1)

We chat about the first half of the Ashina Outskirts, all the way up through the Chained Ogre. Next episode will go through the Horselord or up through the Snakelord.

It’s been a minute but I’m pretty sure you can get a sneak shot in on this guy before fighting him. Even if not, I feel like From does exactly what you want here. Hard to fight vanilla. But between the fire and grappling attack he is more than fair. They even do the thing like every souls game where late game you fight them as almost normal enemies to show the progress you made since first fighting one. There are some bs bosses in this game. I don’t think this is one of them.

After trying and trying and trying, I finally killed the Chained Ogre with barely a scratch on my health. I did use fire a few times, but the key was to keep circling around him and getting a few hits in each time. So long as you're not facing him directly, his attacks don't work particularly well

Charlie Frame

Yall mentioned one of the eavesdrops lieing about something. I am assuming you are talking about the spear that pulls armour off. That's for the next guy with the bell. There is a mini boss in the last stretch of the game that has armour you need to pull off too.

I actually think it's more that you get one from a corpse of a nightjar that is meant to be teaching you that, but it's great that there's a tutorial rooster right there.

Duckfeed.tv

Regarding the roosters, I think it’s no coincidence that you pick up the Shuriken tool moments before you encounter the first one in the game. The Shuriken description states:
The swiftly thrown shuriken damages enemy Vitality and Posture, particularly against those with a tendency to take to the air.
So you get the tool, warp to the Sculptor to fit it, come back, and presto, there’s an enemy (the rooster) who flies at you, giving you a chance to learn how the Shuriken can knock en enemy out of the air. I’m sure the Rooster wasn’t made purely for this, but I certainly think it’s positioned where it is for this neat bit of teaching.

Hmm, not “a Devine favorite?”

- So at around 50 minutes kole talks about how Emma is tending to the sculptor. At that moment there is a hole around the back of the dilapidated temple building, if you go back there you can eavesdrop on Emma and the sculptor. You can eavesdrop them a few times throughout the game. - Little neat lore tip....the guy with the rocket launcher is from the sunken valley clan (covered in bandages). -The forest ghosts could be a thing because it seems that wolf has some sort of emotional connection to others, especially Kuro and those he kills. The memories you get from bosses, and spirit emblems that are pretty much floating emotions of the dead seem to suggest that, and the connection to lord Kuro sort of speaks for itself

See I disagree with the difficulty opinions on the first boss here. I had no issues and beat him the first time. This isn’t me bragging as I was slaughtered immediately after in the encampment with train pulling of attention you guys brought up. Now with the second boss , I haven’t gotten to yet in this episode but I’m sure I will agree with everything that you guys hate about it. That boss is very unfair. Just dreadful. Good stuff though. Love listening to your stuff even when I don’t lol.

Jessie joy

Fireworks probably accounted for 95% of my prosthetic use throughout the game, including using it on the last boss.

Thanks for your patience! We realized we hadn't done a great job of letting everyone know what things were, so we want to be better about that.

I was here when this episode was still accidentally called "Bonfireside Chat Reloaded" and I thought some kind of crossover episode or Easter egg was happening, presumably in relation to wolf's ability to dodge bullets. I can't handle this emotional rollercoaster.

Bird.wav

The Chained Ogre was weird for me, since I almost exclusively darted in for quick hits while baiting out attacks. This worked on a decent number of minibosses in uncomplicated open areas, but it took a while and wasn't especially fun any time I did it.

Guests from time to time.

Are there no guests this season?

A couple people pointed this, but still: The end dude has an uzi.

Just a small detail, guns were a staple of the Sengoku period when they were reintroduced to japan by the Portuguese in the mid 1500s. The inclusion of guns is actually a real point of accuracy. They would be outlawed in the 17th century until the 19th century.
