Bonfireside Chat 135: Ashina Outskirts (Part 2)

This episode covers everything from right after the Chained Ogre, to right before we cross over into Ashina Castle proper. This includes the fight against Gyoubu the Demon and his horse which wouldn't go to horse heaven even if it existed.

Reminder that the next episode will be about Hirata Estates, and then we will start doing off-week episodes.

The headless bosses absolutely are 100% garbage. Terrible idea lol. However Gyuobo is the opposite. He’s a teaching boss. And a good one. Fighting him is supposed to help you understand deflection by realizing how potent the sword block is. The point is to basically fight him like an OG souls boss with a shield. Then when comfortable start trying to deflect

Jessie joy

You can deflect thrust from the start you just cant block them. You don't have to have mikuri unlocked that's just for the counter.

I couldn't agree more about the difficulty of the first playthrough mattering. With a game like Sekiro where there's just one build, just one path, I mean, as much as I loved it, I'm never going to play it a second time. In my case, the first playthrough is the only one. Like you guys, I absolutely loved the exploration and dreaded getting to the bosses. My heart always sunk whenever I realized I had made it to the next boss, which is a bummer because that makes the exploration less fun. I don't even want to find that next step. I don't love the idea of an easier mode, though. I'd rather they use some of your other suggestions about making some of those boss encounters less frustrating.

cool point about the green candies, I hadn't thought of that. I did want to point out , I don't think those statues in that temple room are the 5 headless candy warriors. I could be wrong here but I'm pretty sure the smaller 4 statues are the 4 heavenly kings and the larger one is a buddha. i kind of assumed there was a parallel there with the candy rangers, but I don't think they're identical

When that red eye shed scene happened my daughters were watching and actually screamed when I realized what I was supposed to do and sent white cute boy into a rage

Arthur Ramsey

Sorry. I got the warlord after the ogre confused with the horse boss. If I’d listened 10 more minutes I would’ve heard the cute boy in the canyon talk.

Arthur Ramsey

This episode has a large white friend in a canyon, but I can imagine another large white friend in a canyon which will probably come after ashina castle, I think.

Duckfeed.tv

Which episode will be talking about our large white friend in the canyon?

Arthur Ramsey

Fair enough! I just never found myself in a situation where I wanted to spend the spirit emblems on them, instead of prosthetic tools or ninjutsu.

Oh man, I actually liked the reward for these dudes and used it quite a bit. There super duper didn't need to be as many as there are in this game though.

William

Thinking headless was the way forward was my first experience. After 3 days of grinding away, I finally bested him to be “rewarded” with a path to a bell. Don’t ring that bell, eh? Whats it gonna do, summon the next boss?? Nope, you just made the entire game harder fuckstick.... I was so defeated by that message that I didn’t return to the game for nearly 2 weeks.

WEE OOH WEE OOH WEE IT'S THE KUKRI SIREN: the kukri for Headless is the lilac umbrella, which absorbs all supernatural damage. So you can just chill by him and attack when he's done doing his business! But, even though beating them that way doesn't take super long, it's still tedious and nothing remotely cool happens when you beat these dudes, so still a bummer.

Eric Nagurney

That soldier and his horse willingly sacrificed themselves to mislead you about the gunpowder. It was all a 4d chess ploy. Also there's a fun little bit of dialogue if you attack him before he's done introducing himself.

David

Awesome! Can’t wait to dive into this tomorrow during work.
