They just had a way to make bootleg NES cartridges and they needed a buyer that had their own distribution outlets because Nintendo had previously shut down Atari making bootlegs by threatening to not let outlets that sold bootleg Atari games sell Nintendo games. The development team was mostly atheists and agnostics with one Buddhist and one lapsed Catholic
