Unfilmable 16: Possession

This month we cover the 1981 film Possession, which is one of the strangest things we've watched and covered on the network. Mark returns home to find that his wife Anna not only wants a divorce, but is also acting very strangely. But Mark is unwell too. And there are greater forces pulling the strings here. This movie is hard to get ahold of and very hard to watch at points, but it's also unlike most horror or drama movies we've seen.

I saw this film during a 24 hour movie marathon at a local theater at around the 3am mark and it was one of the most surreal experiences of my life

I have never seen this movie but this has been very entertaining to listen to. Gotta see this movie now

What a treat! You guys did justice to one of my favorite movies by one of my favorite directors. Like with many of Zulawski’s films, I had a hard time piecing the narrative together on my first watch. Things start to cohere to some sort of internal cohesion on multiple viewings. The spiraling staircase & doppelgangers are motifs throughout Zulawski’s films. It’s been a tough couple days with the state of the world compounded by an onslaught of disturbing revelations. Your coverage of my favorite movie helped lighten the psychic load. Can’t wait to hear your Annihilation episode! I know your Unfilmable schedule is closed, but if you guys are jonesing for more Lovecraft, check out 1994’s Dark Waters directed by Mariano Baino. Secluded cloister of satanic nuns. Eldritch child gods. It’s all there. Cheers!
