Call for Eternal Ring Responses

Hello! Have you played Eternal Ring? Do you have thoughts about Eternal Ring? If yes, please share your thoughts on the game in the comments of this post by Wednesday, January 13.

As always, we're looking for specific observations or stories, and we prefer responses to be on the brief side (about two paragraphs max).

Pure speculation so feel free to skip: I'm wondering if Elden Ring might develop Eternal Ring's mechanics the same way that Dark Souls Developed Demon's Souls' mechanics. The thing that makes me wonder if this the imagery from the reveal trailer of the characters holding/putting on arms. I wonder if, much like Eternal Ring's rings, you'll be acquiring arms to swap on your character - like this arm is skilled with axes or another arm is skilled with magic - and then instead of gems to slot into the arms, you'll have rings to put on those arms' fingers. This could let Elden Ring maintain the basic framework of Soul's equipment, but with the customization of the effects from multiple rings' buffs. Hopefully I'll be proven right or wrong soon!

Hearing that you guys didn't really enjoy Eternal Ring was great news. What's that? It's GREAT news? Is this some sort of typo? Haha, no, friends, it's no typo. I'll explain in the next paragraph. Yeah uh so the deal is, I had a pretty good time with Eternal Ring, so knowing that it's possibly the low point of From's first person RPGs has me excited to check out the King's Field and Shadow Tower games. Pretty bizarre that this is From's only PS2 generation title to make it to modern platforms, but it's convinced me that turning to emulation for the earlier games should be worthwhile. Not sure that Eternal Ring is even a particularly good game, but it's one that hit the spot for me. Playing Legend of Grimrock 2 last year made me realize I have a hunger for story-light RPGs with basic setups that a little kid could've dreamed up. Go to an island of no return and poke monsters and throw fireballs and watch numbers go up and feel a vague sense of loneliness? Sign me up. Though the plot had a few interesting beats and at least one scene in the ending stirred up some genuine pathos, I mostly found myself merrily zooming through dungeons, pointing at the screen like Homer Simpson to say "He wants the Eternal Ring. He wants it cause of the power."

The game is not available in the European Playstation Store, so I've not been able to play it. I watched Lobosjr do a blind run. If I were to play an old Fromsoft game, I think this would be the one. It doesn't look and sound as bleak as King's Field and the ring crafting mechanic certainly sounds intriguing and I think it'd be great if Elden Ring had a similar mechanic, not just as a nod but also because I've always been a fan of that kind of mechanic since I saw it in Kingdom Hearts: BBS.
